City Hall council meeting 4-24-06

Last nights city council meeting does not bode well for either faction. With the failure of the ORT (Overland recovery team) to fill Ann Purzners seat the council stands at 7 people. 3 aligned with Mayor Purzner and 4 against.
Things did not start of well when the mayor elect excised the residents comments section from the meeting. The board then spent twenty minutes argueing over what would have been a 15 minute time allotment.
The next arguement broke out when councilman Saye made a motion (which carried) that in the light of the impending recount for the mayoral race that all council persons races should be certified but the mayoral certification shuld be held until the recount is completed.
The meeting broke down when an arguement ensued over the mayors power to appoint an emergency city attorney. The mayor attempted to appoint Steve Redman to city attorney. He was rejected by a vote of 4-3. Who is Steve Redman? He is not the person most people expected to be the mayors first choice which is Chet Pleban. However Chet Pleban was the attorney she appointed as the emergency city attorney. After the mayors attempt to install an emergency attorney order fell apart completely as councilman may banged his water pitcher to drown out Chet Pleban and the members of the ORT (with Ken Owensby leading the way) walked from the meeting. With the council lacking a quorum the meeting was dismissed.

More to come later...
