The Day the Music Died.

The silence from the Ort Cloud is deafening. Defeat upon defeat has brought their delusional view of the world to its knees. How could everyone else in the world be wrong when we are right? Ann won. Since taking office Ann has collected two County Judges and a County Prosecutor who, "just don't like her". If they only knew the law the way our Attorney Nurse Practitioner Mayor knows the law, Ann would win these pitch battles against her constituents.

You know those County Judges can be summed up in one word, "sore losers".

Speaking of "sore losers", there is a misconception among the Ortinians that the majority opposition in Overland have somehow lost something and therefore are "sore losers". If keeping score at home, I have the Mayor winning the election and then joining her Ortian cabal as they embarked on what is now a four month hitless streak. Some may blame the Ortinians for the poor performance. Some blame obstructionists in her opposition.

The Mayor won against two people not on the current board and has never ran against any memeber of current Board. The fact that Mayor Con squeezed out a City wide victory has no bearing on how members of the majority opposition represent the citizens within their ward. The same can be said of Dick Knode and K. Blowensme.

I won't come down on the ORT too hard here. It is not their fault for being so unsuccessful. Let us not forget, the ORT is the minority party on the board. Minority parties rarely do well because they do not posses the votes to formulate policy within the structural framework of the institutions. Funny to me how precise the vote counters in the ORT were during general election but seem oh so challenged with vote counting while serving on the Board.

Any one care to join me in singing a few lines of the classic song, "Born to Lose"?

"Ann won" is there trump card. It is the only thing they can say when you call them on their statements or beliefs.

However, they fail to realize that winning an election does not give one carte blanche to do as they please--rules be damned! The ORT fails to see why we just won't give them the power the crave. Classic Councilmen Commode quote is "The people have spoken" when referring to Ann's win where more people voted against her than for her. The problem is that the ORT doesn't listen when the people do speak.

I can't see all ten participants on the OC Chat being without electricity. Its almost like all ten are concentrated in two, three maybe four places/terminals.

They can't still be setting up tables and chairs over at the Munch-ma-Hall. Maybe Sweaty and her Old Dude volunteered to resurface the gymnasium floor before starting on chairs. How long can it take?

Time to dip into the old Art of Political Manipulation Grab bag with hopes of finding some wisdom. What do we have...

Know Who You’re Dealing with – Do Not Offend the Wrong Person

There are many different kinds of people in the world, and you can never assume that everyone will react to your strategies in the same way. Deceive or outmaneuver some people and they will spend the rest of their lives seeking revenge. They are wolves in lambs’ clothing. Choose your victims and opponents carefully, then – never offend or deceive the wrong person.

Although numerous individuals were separately marching to the Courthouse, has anyone else noticed that Mr. Dody, et. al. filed suit against the Great Con almost immediately following the Overland Chatters day long campaign of smearing Mr. Dody by describing him as a congenital and habitual alcoholic. Did I forget to also mention the Mr. Dody's lawsuit was filed within days of the unwarranted contempt shown to him by the Great Con at the recent BoA meeting?

And to think that the ORT cannot even out-litigate an old washed-up alcoholic. I guess that 5 vote mandate is starting to wane. It might even be down as much as 20% to the original 4 vote mandate.

Be it hereby proclaimed that July 20 be known from this day forward as ST PICKLES DAY.

Why, if she isn't taking care of (or advantage of) the elderly, putting up the city's holiday displays, she is arranging for us to have a spectacular Fourth of July. And here she is now helping the poor and unfortunate without electricity. And why, dear readers, WERE YOU NOT THERE?

Of course, if you were not there at the Community Center then you were doing nothing to help the poor peasants of Overland. The community center was the be all and end all of helping others. It was the place to be!

And three cheers for the mayor for finally doing something on behalf of the citizens instead of in spite of the citizens. I can’t wait for the pictures to be posted on the city’s website. Because, as someone once posted, it isn’t worth doing if you aren’t going to get the praise for it.

Still waiting for The Goat to post something about Alberici helping us during this crisis. I mean, they have that big turbine and all. Why aren't they providing electricity for us?!!!!!

The ability to make a bologna sandwich does not make you an expert on Emergency Management.

Likewise, your lack of awareness of an Emergency Management Plan does not mean the lack of existence of such plan.

Emergency issue post from members site.

Pick get your facts straight I know for positive that at least 1 of the 4 councilmen (& I'm guessing the other 3) WERE NOT CALLED. Why, because they didn't want them there. And you know as well as everyone else they had no intention of calling them.

So don't go accusing someone for not helping when they don't know what's going on.

So it's not shame on them, it's shame on Purzner for pulling her crap again. If she thinks this little act of kindness is going to set her straight with the residents SHE'S CRAZIER THEN I THOUGHT. If she's not already on medication then do your good friend a favor rush her to a doctor or nurse and get her on some.

And how the h..ll do you have so much time to spend over here when supposedly you have SOOOOOOO many commitments to take care of, of your own. Why don't you start taking care of them and quit butting in where you clearly don't belong.

Regarding the pictures, is this so that we no longer use the community center as a cooling center in a similar blackout? Of course, not, it is regarding the meetings. The ORT can't have it both ways--it's great to open up to the community, but not if the community is wanting to open up to them (about their feelings on ORT actions).

My theory:
The community center gym is used for craft fairs and other similar community events. People in all sorts of shoes walk across the floor for those CITY SPONSORED events.
What is the point of having a community center if it cannot be used for the community? This "save the floor" mentality reminds me of someone who buys an item but never uses it for fear of ruining it. Isn't using it the reason why we buy it/have it?

c3missile: When did they have time to take these pictures? I thought they were working away at helping the suffering souls of Overland?

Two layer: Are you channelling SPYDOG with the all caps? :)

Is possible floor damage a valid defense for violating the Sunshine Law?

Blogger onelayer said...

Suzyjax, no I am not channelling anyone inparticular. I was called, asked to get this info out to as many people as possible. I was also asked to put this on the blog. My mistake for using caps, just trying to get peoples attention.

Like I said I do not have all the details, just that they would like as many Overland residents to see it as possible.

3:32 PM
Blogger onelayer said...

First, never said it was anyone from the ORT.

Second, was not given all the details, so the ones I did get, did not want to say anymore until I could verify them. That's why I made the correction.

Third, I do know it's about the mayor, thought people might like to know, if you want to watch, watch if not don't.

I am not going to play guessing games as to what it might or might not be. I will wait until tomorrow night.

Pickles,

And as far as cancelling a wedding reception at Wild Acres.

First, like they knew a storm was going to blow in. Wedding events are planned months in advance and I don't care who planned them, councilman or not. Mother nature does not give us a warning. And this was not a Katrina disaster. And if it would have been that big he would have been involved since he is a REAL NURSE AND WORKS AT A HOSPITAL.

Second, you have to be contacted and let know what is going on.

Third, from what I heard only 20 people showed up at the gym, from what I heard and the gym holds what 900. Please correct me if more than 900 showed up and the gym
was filled to capacity.

I can not believe that May nor anyone else would not have cancelled if there was a need for it.

So go blow your opinions and what you would or wouldn't have done up your A.

OK I am sorry but I am a bit disappointed here.

You may not like the Mayor, or those on the Council that side with here.

But "photo op" or not, they apparently where in fact there for hours, doing what they could, visiting with people etc.

The Mayor does not have to be an expert on Emergency Management, she needs to have someone at her disposal who can handle that well. She does, it is the Chief.

It appears to me that she left the Chief to handle the emergencies and did what she could to help out in the community center.

In my humble opinion that should be commended! Far too few politicians would step back and let the professionals handle the problem. Far too many are more concerned with "looking like they are in charge" then they are about the actual lives and properties at stake.

The Mayor had the sense to stay out of the chiefs way and she also had the williness to lend a hand at the community center. Say what you will, but that was the proper way to handle it and I believe it should be commended.

Also, the reason behind the idea to use the Wild Acres Gym for a cooling center was because of the loss of power at the community center. However, I have talked with several cooling stations, and the closest one, that is also oen 24 hours is the Salvation Army on Page and though they can only handle 74 people, they said they are way below capacity (and that is with the St. Ann cooling center (at their community center) being closed down as well. So it would appears that a large cooling center was no longer needed anyway. Which really should come as no surprise to anyone when you consider the way the tempatures fell after the same storm that took out the community center's power.

I have it on good opinion that the Great Con and her three carnival barkers lost their electricity.

The cooling center was coincidental.

Why were the Mayor's carnival barkers available to volunteer?

Because they have absolutely no friends in their personal lives for which to attend.

I am pissed that Sweaty Pickle's Old Dude didn't strap-on the utility belt and single-handedly solve the black-out. Only fireworks displays I guess. Why is he so stingy with his love?

Pickle's Concession Stand Management Degree and her years, and I mean years, of experience make her uniquely suited to handle bologne sandwich logistics in times of crisis.

Hey folks, somebody posted an opinion that the Overland Chat posts were getting more witty than our humble offerings here at the John Doe Society. Now I know who must of bought the Dilbert Calender sold recently at Schnucks.

Of course nobody in there right mind would even consider canceling a wedding reception because ten people needed a Cooling Center on a night when the average temperature was 70 degrees. Why didn't Blowensme make a path through that tableu of bear cans and old copies of soldier of fortune that he calls a living room so that these people could have shelter?

Why I ask. Why.

The Great Con could have used her Stratus for that matter.

Oh, by the way ORTIANS, the "floor damage" defense is not necessarily a defense to avoid the Sunshine Laws in the legal sense of the words. Take as many photos as you want gang. Whether the floor would be damaged is not relevant to the requirement to hold meetings in a venue suitable for the expected attendance. I betcha the judge doesn't even take a peek at the photos.

OverlandSailor,

I agree with your last post to a degree re: the emergency and pointing fingers.

The problem I have with this is that the Mayor did not inform all of the councilmen. If she would have I would not have had a problem. But it was her choice not to let them know. As far as I'm concerned she put the political spin on it.

Pickles was quick to tell about the wedding but forgot to tell the whole story with the Mayor and being at a casino. Nothing new there they always seem to forget to tell the whole story. And would she have said anything if it was someone else who had rented the hall. Looking at her track record for spilling the goods on people, I highly doubt it.

Blogger John Moyle said...

OK,

However, how hard would it be for the Councilman to know an Emergency hit the city considering they live here?

If I was on the council (and NO I am NOT interested in EVER joining that Circus) and something like this happened I would at least be calling in to see how things were going and if there was anything needed.

In all likelihood they probably did call in and learned from the Chief that everything was well under control. Then they likely went back to caring for thier families, neighbors, businesses, etc.

But to suggest that the Mayor did not call so they had no way to know what was going on is a bit of a streach in my opinion.

Opps, Sorry Twolayer, that came across a bit harsh and that was not really my intent.

My comment is not directed at you personally, it is directed at the idea that someone could somehow not have known what was going on.

I mean, even my family on the East Coast knew what was going on to some extent because the story made the national news.

Anyway, sorry if that "pre-second cup of coffee" post came out rough or seemed directed at you. That was not my intent.

Sailor,
Noone here "politicized" the handling of the emergency. In fact, it was at Overlandchat.com and Dumbpickles herself that pointed fingers while beating her own ORTian drum.
I heard the mayor was all over the chief (negatively)about us not having an "emergency plan." This was the basis of my comment on not realizing their is a plan doesn't mena it doesn't exist. The sandwich comment was based on this same line of just because you have worked with disaster recovery you are not an expert. Again, Purzner is judging on an issue in which she knows NOTHING. Pickles posts that the sky is falling and the only thing holding it up is the grand ol' ORT. They politicized, we called them on it.

Others have commented on what a great job the police and public works have done and are doing. To have her cronies say "they didn't do enough" is just a slap in the face to these hardworking individuals.

Losing electricity is an inconvenience, a hurricane is an emergency.

Having your Mrs. Paul's fishsticks thaw prematurely is an inconvenience, and earthquake is an emergency.

Spending a few hours or even spending-the-night away from the heat in the Munch-ma-Hall cooling center is an inconvenience, waking up with Mayor Purzner sleeping next to you is an emergency.

I love Sweaty. She is awesome.

She reminds me of a Chris Rock routine in which he discusses how funny it is when people want acknowledgement for doing things they should ordinarily be doing anyway.

"I take care of my kids."

You handed out some water and hung-out with the Great Con listening to her political ramblings for an afternoon. You probably would make sure someone was watching before helping someone across the street.

Great, you volunteered at the Community Center. Can't you leave it at that? Nope, you take the opportunity to question the morality and work ethic of the majority opposition.

I think the funnel cakes are done so you better get back to what you do best, Sweaty.

OK, well I guess we can agree to disagree on this one.

IMHO two wrongs don't make a right. Rather then bash the Mayor for helping out at the community center in response to claims by her supporters that their council opposition did nothing, I personal think the best approach is to simply call them on the accusations.

Stooping to their level does not level the playing field, it lowers it for everyone, and as a result we all loose.

But hey, we all have our ways to approach what is going on around here. My way is to call everyone, regardless of side on it when I think their are in the wrong. Mayor Purzner has a long long list of "wrongs" that I have called her on, but that doesn't mean I am not going to point out when I thought she did something right. The opposite hold true as well.

heh, to each their own I guess.
