Where's the Bid?

The ORT buffoons ran for office by riling people up over how things were done at city hall. I guess they didn’t have a problem with the methods, it was just a matter of who was getting the “free lunch”.

Case in point:

Forty-Six & 2 said
I was told directly by an ORT that Mayor Con is meeting for lunch with several trash haulers over future trash service.Meeting for lunch with Salesmen is nice, but we only care about trash pickup and not whether Mayor Con gets laid or not. Therefore, how about substituting private lunch meetings with a blind-RFP process like other professional organizations?I would like to see our government become a professional organization.I thought Boss Hogg was just a TV character, but I think we have a real life edition in Mayor Con. Let me be clear, I am not knocking the ribs down at the Boar's Nest

The mayor has dirtied the process. Getting bids is not a process done over Kung Pao Chicken at the Mandarin House one day and over a large cheese at Nick and Elena’s the next.

In the words of Mayor Emeritus Dody: “Where’s the bid?”

Getting quotes over “lunch” is not a good business practice; a person could lose their objectivity this way. Submitting bids in writing is how it should be done.

Forty-six & 2, welcome to the board. It's amazing how the ORT brags, isn't it?

NGIT is quite correct, only with the added point that the ORT never HAD any objectivity to start with.

Another idea: say 15 residents of ward 3 send in their applications for the job as councilman and other appointments - when is the deadline? Red Flag # one.
Then, to whom are the applications being sent? To the staff, under the thumb of our Mayor, out of site of the public. RED FLAG #2!!
A better choice would be to have directed applicants to send all materials to the Muni League, with their permission with deadline terms.

I object to reading a passage in which our mayor's sex life is mentioned. (Did the ORT imply THAT? ... OMG!)
I know she's a public figure, hence subject to her critics' acidic, taunting barbs.
We can discuss trash without being trashY.

Almost every time I see Nixon's name I think of this:

Tin soldiers and Nixon's coming,
we're finally on our own
This summer I hear the drumming,
four dead in Ohio.

Hey Forty-Six & 2, AOL use is not limited to idiots. There are also people like me, who like the way they handle Email, and are simply too lazy or too disinterested to search for a better program. :-)

Some of us, who have been online since before anyone even heard of the Internet, jumped on AOL in the first couple of years of it's existance (back in the BBS days) and have been there basically ever since.

And now AOL is making it's service free (bring your own access was cheap, but free is better). I remember when it was 2.95 (might have been 3.95, it has been a loooong time) a HOUR to use AOL. LOL

The Overland Picayune has articles regarding the mayor's new trash plan dated 7/28/2006.

It’s back….

Looks like Fetch either fell off the wagon or stopped taking his meds because Piss Pot Pete is back! Yes, once again he regales us with his nonsensical rants blaming everything from the Democratic Party to sex discrimination to the weather for the problems at city hall. Please PPP, look inside yourself for the answer. Look inside city hall for the answer.

The problem is not in all the excuses that PPP offers. Instead, the problem is a mayor who oversteps her authority, belittles the citizens, and breaks the law! The Queen and her myrmidons (Owesnby, Sellers and Knode) never read a rule they didn’t want to bend or break to serve their purpose. In addition, people like Fetch, Donna Dill, Carole Sparks, etc add to the misery when they praise every illegal act she does. Why would the mayor straighten up when the birds on her shoulder are telling her she is great?!

Perhaps less people would attend meetings if things were going smoothly and within the bounds of state statute and local ordinances. No one is being paid to care about their city.

The topper is when he threatens to bring out his rolling sign again. I say, what a waste of time and money considering the price of gas. But, this man has no sense whatsoever.

What is this "rolling sign" all about? What does it say? Looks like PPP reared his ugly head (heed) again. How odd that PPP and SPYDOG's writings are exactly the same. Same spelling errors, no puncuation, uses the word "know" for "now" etc. hmmmmmm

Well it looks like Charles Karam lost his bit for U.S. congress.

U.S. REPRESENTATIVE DISTRICT 2
VOTE FOR 1
(WITH 227 OF 231 PRECINCTS COUNTED 98.27%)

RICH LESH 3,249 28.78
GEORGE D. WEBER 3,233 28.64
JOHN HOGAN 1,926 17.06
CHARLES KARAM 2,881 25.52
Total 11,289

(from: http://www.co.st-louis.mo.us/elections/el0806/el45.htm )

That may be good for the country but it is bad for Overland. Now good Ole' Charle will have more time to devote to Overland. :-(

I agree Suzyjax,
PPP has a wire loose somewhere.
I am glad that he admits to the ILLEGAL sign that violates campaign finance laws by using a fake name. It is good to see that his parents did not waste all that money on his higher education, especially the english comp. classes!

Higher educaton?! I am not so sure about primary or secondary education. Punctuation is really grade school material, isn't it?

PPP drove a sign around on election day saying vote for Purzner and the rest of their ORT.
The problem was it said paid for by Piss Pot Pete which is illegal because you can not use a ficticious name.

Regarding the 2nd Cong District Race:

You can't just look at St. Louis County numbers. This district spreads more to St Charles County. The SOS site or the Post's wrap up are better sources of complete information.

That aside, I would love for everyone to pull both Weber's and Karam's finance reports. Not to look for provocative donors, but to see how much each candidate spent. Then break it down on how much each spent per vote received. The difference in those numbers will astound you.

New girl in town,

How right you are, when is the mayor going to start shoulding some of the responsibility for this mess. Of course, that would mean she would have to start thinking rationally, which that is not going to happen.

After reading PPs' post the ORT "Overland Recovery Team" should be renamed "ROT" Ruin Overland Today.

In the Journal today she said something about the people walking the track while the meeting was going on. From what I understand they are closing the track the night of the meeting.

She was also complaining about the cost of renting mics. How much has she spent in the extra police at every meeting for fear of her life. From what I understand that amount far out weighs the rental of mics.

twolayer,
LOL...that is a good one you came up with "ROT, Ruin Overland Today"
Many a true word said in jest.

I'm Just tired of hearing these patsies running around chanting, "the Mayor got bad advice". Heck, this so called Mayor has been on the Council for 14 years and she still can't comprehend protocol, ordinances etc? Good grief!!

Jeff O'Connell is new on the Council and he has a better grasp of things, very much more so, than the Mayor has or ever will have.

I kid thee not:

This evening in front of the public attendees in the city council room, Mayor Purzner stated that "A quorum is EIGHT people."

Nonetheless, Mr. Knode, chairman of the budget committee, STILL sought Ann Purzner's advise and input on our budget - something she has no legal reason to influence.

That's "Gospel".

Nothing was accomplished legally. The meeting ended (at 6:55pm), five minutes before the officially published starting time (7:00pm) - another slap in the face of Sunshine Laws.

Nothing was accomplished anyway. The ORT Budget Committee wasted time since they don't have a snowball's chance in hell of passing the General Fund portion (the section that addresses subsidized trash) of the city budget. The Capital Improvements section of the budget is fine.

See ya'all Monday night, right?
