Please note City Council Special Meeting on Monday

Monday
August 27
A day that will live in infamy.
The city of Overland was suddenly and deliberately taken back 30 years.

Okay, enough hyperbole.

Just a reminder that there is a special council meeting on Monday. The primary objective is to set the tax rates, (yawn) which is done every August. (We couldn't do that at the 8/13 meeting?)

Also scheduled is the induction and reception for Mike Schneider (double yawn).

The only thing that might be exciting is to come and see if he has the chutzpah to nominate Les Dills to fill the open Ward 4 seat. (Personally, I am in favor of More Dills *wink*.)

Les Dills would be an absolute terrible choice. Except for a scant few in MVE he isn't that well liked and he is of course the choice of the Citizens For Good Government which makes it all the more reason to be voted down.

From today's Suburban Journal:

A month earlier, Councilman Mike Schneider stood before local business men and women and tried to sell them on the notion that he would make a good mayor. Last Thursday, he returned to the group as the city's mayor-elect, but he was fully aware that the business deal was not completely done.

"Now that I've made the sale, I've got to deliver the goods," Schneider told a gathering of the Overland Business Association.

Congratulations, Overland. You fell for it hook, line and sinker.

Nothing but a salesman with no experience or ability to run a government.

Tupper-Mayor will continue Overland's downward spiral in the fine tradition of Dodo and Munschkin

and

Tupper-Mayor will assure that Overland is
screwed by Stuckey,
plagued with Paul,
burdened with Boone and
harangued by Herman.

Edgar,

Did he by chance go on to say how he plans on delivering the goods?

Ok,

Just read the article, couple of questions?

1. What small business does he own?

2. Is he or has he ever been an OBA member.

3. Other then talk, did I miss how he plans on delivering the goods?

Mayor-Elect Schneider is an OBA member, I'm not sure how long he's been one, but he's been a member longer then I have so at least a year.

As for delivering the goods, one item he referenced was to put together a letter and start regularly reaching out to companies and organizations that would be good for Overland. I'm not sure how effective this would be but depending on the expense, it might do some good.

When asked about street fairs and the like at the Woodson business district he said we need to work to fill the vacant spaces there first. I agree that we need to do what we can to attract businesses to fill those spaces. However, another town I used to live in had similar problems and their local Chamber of Commerce started holding regular street events. As the crowds in attendance grew the vacant spaces slowly declined. This approach was the catalyst that helped that town turn itself completely around, though it took years.

He confirmed that the Council is looking hold regular workshop meetings on the third Monday of every month. He also responded favorably to the idea of holding regular town hall style meetings on the first Monday, though he did suggest that it might be more effective if held on a weekend.

Sailor,

Thank you.

Onelayer,
The real question is what organization does he NOT belong to in Overland?
I'm all for civic duty, but at a certain point you are a member of so many organizations it is obvious you are not doing anything FOR those orgs, just using them to pad your resume.

I deleted the faker, but also deleted the posts that referred to him. I think FelonFetsch sees glory in both.

But, when Fetsch's crimes have managed to boot him out of his career, what choice does he have but to spend his hours continuing to steal identities.

That and jealousy, when you compare the participation here vs OverlandChat.

Finewine is right. Ward 4 exends way beyond MVE (even to my house).
However, I do not think Ms. Karr is the answer. I say the same thing I said during Purzner's attempts to appoint.

Keep the process open. Let us see how this was vetted. The problem with Dills (in addition to the tax issue), is that it is so blaringly obvious that this is payback for political favors. Schneider said even before he registered to run that he would appoint Dills. That does not say open and transparent process.

Suzy,

First, again thank you.

Do you know what business he owns?

Only Mike Schneider would say he "made the sale" when more people voted against him than for him.

Mike Schneider does not own a business and unless his wife allowed him to vend into her Tupperware franchise. Outside of that he has been a "wage slave" like the rest of us.

The difficult thing for Schneider is that he never defined what the voter was buying when voting for him. "The Goods" were never defined and therefore cannot be delivered.

Is he referring to a pool, free trash, the skateboard park or flattening Ward 3 for Lowes.

"Reaching-out to businesses that would be good to Overland". I don't even know what that means. Based on his sense of ethics demonstrated during the campaign, I think it more likely that Schneider is better suited at reaching-around that reaching-out.

Town Hall meetings? What a hoot. He is probably referring to the exclusive/secret COGG meetings.

Exactly! Town Hall meetings implies that he actually cares about what the average citizen thinks. I could see him trying to get the OPD to check credentials and not allow anyone in not on the "approved list". (Straight out of a Rove playbook.)

Ok,

In the article it says -pledged to restore communication between city hall & the OBA. And, as the owner of a small business, he'll handle this duty himself, pledging to personally attend assoc. meetings.

1. Does anyone know the name of this business he is talking about? I have heard he is the mananger of some company off Warson, do not know the name.

2. If he's been a member of the OBA, owns a samll business & has been on the council for over the past year, why weren't the lines of communication with city hall & the OBA been open all this time?

Onelayer,
Good questions.
To hear him talk you would think he owns that business off Ashby/Warson. Perhaps he is talking about his now defunct Tupperware franchise. Perhaps there is another business of which we are unaware.

Kudos for your point about lines of communication. He had the opportunity to do a lot last year, not only between OBA but standing up for the residents of Overland. He found it politically expedient to keep quiet. That, or he is truly our Do Nothing Mayor.

What he said doesn't make sense to me.

What is the name of this business, no one seems to know. Is it located in Overland, if not, WHY NOT, he said there are a lot of vacancies in the downtown area. He could fill one of those with his business.

He now pledges to personally go to the meetings, hasn't he been going. If you own your own business I would think you could schedule the time to make them.

Hell, he belongs to a group of business owners & being one himself, after getting elected to council wouldn't that have been one of his first priorities. He has had an inside track with the city for over a year.

Sailor,

All the things you told me about how he intends to delivery the goods is fine. Street parties etc are nice but he is going to need to do more then throw parties in order to turn Overland around.

Where are those ideas & plans.

Although Mike claims to be the manager of this office, his name is not listed anywhere among the branches management contacts and the home office in Cincinnati stated Mike does not hold a management position in St. Louis.

Another example of the divergence between what Mike says and what Mike actually does.

This was just brought to my attention.

The Mrs. is into beads (selling & making jewelry) I'm not saying it is, but could this be the small business he is talking about?

If so, is she doing this out of their home? I don't remember Chaucer as being zoned as commercial.

Beads?
That's like claiming your kids lemonade stand!

11:25 AM
Blogger onelayer said...

Gravey,

Doesn't that go with what everyone was saying. How could he hold a management position & be over 2 unions?

Ort,

I agree. that's just what I heard. Beads is her thing, selling & making. Have no idea what it brings in or doesn't.

11:40 AM
Blogger PTT said...

He is not a union member nor manager.

His campaign literature mixed two lies in that statement. Not huge lies but certainly "resume exaggerations".

I believe he works as a middle to lower manager with unionized diesel mechanics. Like the service manager at a car dealer.

Is the Mrs. collecting the appropriate sales tax for her jewelry sales?

Wait...what am I talking about? She still hasn't paid the appropriate back taxes on her car/personal property.

FineWine The board (that included Councilman Schneider) did NOT work to "undermine" Mayor Purzner. They worked to prevent her from breaking the laws, statutes, codes and ordinances that govern how the City is to be run. If Mayor Purzner had governed properly, as in follows the law, in all likelihood she would still be the Mayor.
