Faux Nurse Round 3
Today’s 11:00 news has done two teasers about people working in the medical field with fake credentials. This will be a story carried on tonight’s 9:00 news. Is this THE story that we have been told to tune into? It surely has relevance to our mayor. I know many legitimate RNs, LPNs, et al are outraged over the mayor’s false assertions that she is a nurse.
How does the ORT defend this? Well, they don’t. Her defenders (i.e. Donna Dill) will be post things like “I’ll give you a clue: her middle name is Ann.” Oh, stop the bullshit. You are too old to act so coy! If her supposed college degrees and nursing license is under a different name provide us with that name.
This is the technology age. We can do searches on professional registry databases by last name and zip code. Wait, don’t tell me. She doesn’t live in Overland? Wait, it’s under her work address. Well, she worked at Overland Medical Center and that would be the same zip.
The silly part of this whole issue is that being a nurse has nothing to do with valid credentials to the mayor of Overland. Why does she mention it in her campaign materials? Is it an attempt to create some sort of legitimacy? A lie like this can only backfire in your face.

You are oh so right. College transcripts and academic credentials have served as proof for many-a-moon. In fact, the original sheeps skin or as we say college diploma was one such credential.
Official transcripts have taken the place of a diploma. Diplomas, as we all know, became extremely easy to counterfeit thus they became wall ornaments.
Simply call the office of Admissions and request a copy of the "students" or graduates' transcripts. There may be a copying fee but it is negligible.
Come on Sweaty, name the undergrad school and the nursing school that Ann not only attended but did in fact graduate from.
U-Con?
R Obin U.
I am not an actual nurse, I just play one during capaigns.
LOL
Well, there may have been a method to the madness. I cannot find the specific survey at the moment, however, a survey was conducted at some point that two elected representatives in Jefferson City referenced that showed that people believe what a nurse tells them nearly all of the time.
Being a Nurse, tends to carry some weight in the minds of the average person. So, this credential, sited in campaign literature, helped build credibility for the Mayor. Was it done BY HER intentionally? Who knows.
However, whomever mailed out those campaign flyers with the false claim that the Mayor was a registered nurse knowingly or unknowingly committed mail fraud, which is a federal offense. I would love to know if anyone in the Post Master's office ever reviewed this.
In most cases, when something like this comes up, it is hard to say if it made a difference or not. However, in this election, with the Current Mayor running against someone with a college education in Public Policy, I think it is legitimate to think that 5 or more people might have voted the other way if they had known that she was not actually an RN (and possibily not even a college grad, as I remember channel 4 reporting that they contacted Maryville University and could find no record of Mayor Purzner ever attending that school).
As a candidate you are responsible for the material your campaign distributes. Even if you never actually see it before it hits the streets.
There is an occassion where PACs will send out endorsement material that is out of your control. This is hardly the case in muni mayoral races.
This is now avoided by those "My name is Jane Doe and I approved this message" taglines on radio and TV commercials.
Did a campaign worker hang Mayor Con's fraudulent Maryville Nursing diploma on her office wall without Mayor Con's knowledge?
Faking credentials is a window into a persons character. It is not like she was fresh out of school and embelished a little with hopes of getting that first job. No, this is a 70 year old person running for Mayor.
Padding the resume with fraudulent credentials at age 70 is evidence of a pathalogy more so than a mistake.
Rarely do typographical errors randomly form complete sentences.
I have got to say this.
Overland Sailor, have you or have you ever been married, have you ever planned a wedding for yourself or a child?
Mr. May after working in the emergency room is more than aware what an emergency is or isn't. Sorry but in my book family comes first.
I also stand corrected there were 24 at the Com. Ctr. not 20.
This great act the mayor did by cooking and being there, well I have cooked for more at a first birthday then that. I do not consider sandwiches for lunch cooking, neither do I consider putting TV trays in the oven cooking. The chief brought over the TV dinners that they serve the prisons for dinner.
Also the mayor called from the casino to check on things and I heard Pickles was there by her side. Isn't a captain suppose to stay with the ship. No she was at the casino having a nice time. So don't down May for not calling off the reception when there was no need to.
Pickles and all her good work was seen eating at the Com. Ctr. while the food was suppose to be for those who had none. Why was she eating, of course if you took a look at her you'd know why.
Did you also know that Knode & Owensby went to Wild Acres to take pictures of that floor too.
As usual Pickles said they had the wrong name for Ann when it came to her degree, she forgot to call them and tell which 4 they should use her maiden or 3 married names.
Pickles also being such a good friend of the mayors forgot to tell the post who she was a couple of months ago when her mug was front and center in the paper. What a good friend that won't even give her name.
Pickles also was more than happy to report the news on Mays' daughter but forgot to say she doesn't even know her.
But somehow forgot to report that Sellers' son is in prison for murder & a second on the lamb for murder.
She also forgot to say that Owensby reported in the post he was a teacher at Francis Howell, funny I called they have never heard of him. He's a sub at best if that.
Did you ever stop to think how does Pickles know all this stuff about Overland when she doesn't live here. What does she have the city hall or the mayor wired.
And what are her commitments she supposedly has, her only commitment is butting in where she doesn't belong. She has never said what her commitments are.
Oh, and this I just heard that the mayor is not living on Zykan full-time, & not just since the storm. On good sources she's living in West County (oh dgtr lives there) & part-time here. Isn't the mayor suppose to live full-time in the community?
And not let's forget Mark Brown he thought since she worked at the Overland Med. Ctr. she was a nurse, another good friend.
And the fact he was in the room when the mayor made Ms. Downs swear in Branch. No Mark has nothing to do with any of this crap.
Oh, and the mayor not knowing who took the interview for the Overland Watch, wait I wrote that, no I know but I'm not telling.
How long of a list is it going to take. There is nothing any of them can say or do that will ever change my mind about them.
And how constipated are they, they are so full of crap. They need to call friend nurse Ann to give them a fleet enema.
My complement of the Mayor was mostly that she left the handling of the emergency response to the emergency responders. The fact that she stayed at the community center to cook and visit is not something to snear at either. She took the time to try to be helpful in a small way. As I said before if she had left the emergency response to the chief and had NOT come to the community center to assist people would be screaming "where was the Mayor".
She did something many politicians would not, she let the professionals handle it rather then try to "be seen as in charge" and in the process give orders that screws things up.
It has been said that after the first night she started armchair quarterbacking the emergency response. If and when she publically talks about the response I will critique her, of that you can be sure.
Feel free to check out my blog for where I also call the Mayor on the many problems I have with the way she does things.
As for May,other then having an occassional issue with something he supported or said I don't know that I have said anything about him at all.
I defended his use of Wild Acres for the wedding reception as there was no real need for it to be used as a cooling center with a low of 65 that evening.
I defended his absense from the community center because he is a REAL RN and I would imagine was likely business where he works, caring for the sick. And I took those who would accuse him of inaction to task as well.
As for all the rest, I get the feeling that your are seeing this entire matter as either black or white. It isn't, it never is. There are alot of shades gray in the world. I have alot of issues with Mayor Purzner to be sure, but I feel that she did what was right for the city in this time of crisis. That said, I have NO ISSUE with what anyone else did as well.
I am still new around here, so perhaps it will take a bit for people to get a handle on my "style". I do like deception at all. There is a difference between satire and muckracking. What we see frequently on OverlandChat is muckracking, what we generally see here is satire.
But I have a sore spot when it comes to people who, in my opinion, politicize and emergency or disaster. I have lived through a few, and I have been an emergency responder for one that became a political chess match as well. There is no place for politics when it comes to events like this, period.
I have called it as I saw it and I did so with both sides. That is who I am, and what I do.
As for all the rest? What the heck does that have to do with me having an issue with people belittling the Mayors role in this Emergency or others suggesting that Councilman may did nothing?
I am at a loss as to where I suggested that May should have cancelled the wedding reception. I thought the idea that he should was rediculous and I posted that in several places.
Unless there is a typo, or some bad wording on my part that I did not catch I have no idea how you could possibly think I said anything negative about that.
The way I see it. The Wild Acre's gym should have been a none issue because the storm that took out the power also killed the heat wave (we had a low of 65 that evening for goodness sake) so there was no need for a cooling center anymore. Though there might have been a need for a shelter for those who may have had their homes severely damaged, the Salvation Army shelter is a 24 hour shelter is is about the same distance from the community center which (as I understand it as I was not down there) was not allowing people to stay overnight anyway.
I think I have been pretty consistant in this position. Early in the discussion I was a tad guarded as I wanted more facts before I formed my opinion on the matter but for the best of my knowledge, the only time I said anything like "May should have cancelled....." was when I was chastising his political opponents for say such rediculous garbage.
One thing I forgot.
I was not trying to change anyone's mind about anything. I was pointing out where I felt someone did something good, just as I have pointed out (repeatedly) where I felt that same person did something wrong. It seems only fair to me.
OverlandSailor,
You are right I am and have always seen things very black & white, never did like the gray area, not in my personal life or business.
I have been told before I never knew how to play the game. Problem is I never wanted to.
Did not mean to come on the way I did but I do not like people that do not tell the entire story. And I have to admit I have a real problem with people that lie.
I have a similar problem, which is why I tend to call people the "I heard..."s and why I point out when people in public office do right, as well as when they do wrong, based on my personal opinion.
Lies can be fought by calling people on them and demanding proof.
Not telling the whole story can be fought by filling in the blanks for people yourself. However, be careful. Is the untold story you are concerned about a rumor, or were you able to verify it?
If rumor you have to make a decision, do I post about it or do I wait until I can verify it. If I post, do I clearly mark it as rumor.
In the effort to tell the whole story we sometimes risk becoming "liars" in that we post what we heard in good faith only to learn after the fact it is untrue.
For example, rumor has it that the Mayor began to armchair quarterback the emergency response at some point. I don't know if this is true or not, so I wait for more information and only mention it by also saying that it is a rumor I have yet to verify.
If it is verified then what do I do? Do I say she shouldn't have done that, maybe, but not knowing what she said I have a hard time arguing it. So knowing it is likely only a matter of time before the issue pops up on her personal website (if the rumor is in fact true) I wait to see what shows up there and will challenge her on whatever I disagree with and I will agree with her where that is appropriate as well.
My goal is always to give my point of view, and try my best to be fair with everyone I might write about. I slip up on occasion, but that goal remains and I believe I usually hit the mark.
Well you're entitled to your opinion windy, as I am to mine and everyone else is to theirs.
I write the way I do because I prefer to try to avoid misunderstanding. In my experience, quick short notes about more complicated subjects are often taken in ways other then the author intended. So, I work to avoid that.
My advice to you, if you do not like to read what I write, then simply skip ahead on sites I participate on, and don't bother visiting my blog and the like. A rather simple solution.
Keep Sailing sailor.
It really is too bad that things have deteriorated so badly that the public officials cannot advise one another. If they could speak to one another, this whole Wild Acres wedding reception fiasco could have been avoided. Con could have provided sage counsel to the bride to be, explaining that she would have plenty of weddings in the future. No need to rob the commoners of a cooling center when the temperature may get as high as 70 that night. She could have invited the newlyweds out to the Casino, had a steak the Range, maybe even spring for a valet park.
If only they could speak.
Epic.
Pickles Nightingale.
Since when did volunteering for the Emergency PBJ Detail become part of an Alderman's responsibilities?
Sweaty acts like she is caring for a lepper community? How many man-hours, or pickle-hours, does it take to make 23 bologne sandwiches and a cooler of Kool-Aide? Including Dillweed, Mayor Con, Blowensme and Dick Kmode, they had at least four volunteers?
Now that I take a look at the lineup, it is entirely possible for this crew to require several hours to produce the "meals".
Please Match Following Quotes with the above mentioned individuals.
"Your out of order."
"There are American boys dying right now for our right to this bologne. You better enjoy it."
"If any trash is produced I am not paying for it."
"May I wash your feet and rub them with fine oils and linements?"
Pickles handing out sandwiches.
"one for you,one for you,one for me."
"one for you,one for you,one for me."
"one for you,one for you,one for me."
"one for you,one for you,one for me."
"one for you,one for you,one for me."
"one for you,one for you,one for me."
"one for you,one for you,one for me."
"one for you,one for you,one for me."
They probably needed to make closer to 80 sandwiches.

I agree that the "nightingale" routine is getting a bit rediculous.
I can only speak for my own block, were everyone who stayed in the area took care of themselves and several took care of those on the block in need as well. But I don't see anyone asking for a gold star on the permanent record.
I have seen this sort of thing in the past, and probably everyone else has as well. For example, I remember a relative once telling me "we bought that gas powered mower for the preacher because the church did not have the funds and we felt terrible that he had to use an old hand powered model. But don't tell anyone, it's a secret." That sounds noble and all, but it losses something as you listen to the same "it's a secret" tale being told to everyone she ran into.
There are people out there who have a "need" for attention, They say things like they do it "for the good feelings" or what not, but they cannot seem to keep from telling the entire world what a good person they are.
What they do not realize is that most of us listen to them tell of all their "good-deeds" and we think, 'what a petty person', 'could they be more self absorbed?', 'do the want a blue ribbon or something?', etc.
The true spirit in giving and volunteering is in the act. It is not milking that act for every ounce of attention one can get.
Love the lawnmower anecdote.
Spot on Sailor, Spot on.
Sailor,
Great observation.
"Well cousin Vic, instead of the magnanomous gesture of buying the GAS powered mower, why don't you get off your ass and mow the grass for the church?"
And by the way Shit-pickles, there are still people in the St. Louis community without power, so get off your ass, out from behind the computer and get back to those jars of peanut butter.
PBJ Sandwhich boat is comin...
We'll party tonight....
That's for you Gravy.
Great Point lucky.
We must remember only you and Norman have the perspective necessary to see across the community.
I can just see them, Thursday morning, just after handing out the last mile carton, trash truck rolls up, sweaty hops out wearing BFI uni, just in time for the ORT photo op. I can see them standing in front of the newly printed "Mission Accomplished" banner hanging in the gymnasium while the Unkonw Reporter of Overland Crotch snaps a few prints.
I'd like to know why Pickles & Courtney were giving out frozen or notpizzas. If you have no electric you can't keep them, electric stove can't cook them, can't microwave them, how were you suppose to eat them. Nice gesture wrong food. I think frozen donuts would have been a better choice.
Gravy: Photo op and accompanying banner In the gymnasium?! Have you lost your mind?!
We must save the floor. Join the save the floor campaign, now!
Maybe all those people that got pizzas the other day can document them and turn it into FEMA for reinbursement.
Anybody know how long it takes to cook pizza on a patio or sidewalk?
Ok, this is totally off the subject. Pickles you really need to have the Mayor help you pick out some new outfits. The Humpty Dumpty look is no longer in fashion. And don't you remember he/she eventually fell off the wall and cracked and no one could put him back together. A smile everynow and then wouldn't hurt either.
Sorry, correction.
Anyone that rec'd food from Picks or Court don't be surprised if you see them at your door asking for it back, they just figured out how to make a quick buck by turning it into FEMA.
What do Shitpickles and the Rev. Al Sharpton have in common?
Haistylists?
