Vandals won’t get Christmas goat, Swedish officials say
But officials in the Swedish city of Gavle are guaranteeing that this year’s giant straw Christmas goat — the victim of Sweden’s most violent yule tradition — will survive unscathed.
The 43-foot-high goat — a centuries-old yule symbol that preceded Santa Claus as the bringer of gifts to Swedish homes — has been burned down 22 times since it was first set up in 1966.
But officials think they have finally outsmarted the vandals by dousing the battered ram with flame-resistant chemicals normally used on airplanes.
"It is impossible to burn it to the ground this year, although you might be able to singe its paws," said Anna Ostman, a spokeswoman for the committee in charge of building the goat.
The company providing the fireproof treatment is so sure of its resilience that its spokesman, Freddy Klassmo, said that "not even napalm can set fire to the goat now."
For those who want to follow its fate, a 24-hour webcam has been set up to film the goat in Gavle, 90 miles north of Stockholm. The security guards that had watched over previous versions have been called off, Ostman said.
While the origins of the Christmas goat are unclear, the symbol is thought to date back to Norse mythology and the two goats that drew the carriage of Thor, the god of thunder.
Since 1966, just 10 of Gavle’s giant goats have survived beyond Christmas Day. Aside from being burned, several were beaten down and the 1976 goat was hit by a car.

Let em come. They all have lied so much that no one takes them seriously. If they try to harass the petition signers they will only alienate the residents some more. We are ready to make charges and prosecute any harassing activity. I also would like to report that harassing phone calls are made from Mark Browns Print Shop. Hopefully the phone company will remove his business phone if ORT continues to abuse it and us.{also their home phones should be eliminated if further harassment comes from them}

Purzner is really expounding upon Herman’s bottle slamming act and tossing in the “tape” of Mark Brown and Herman’s edited conversation from 1998.
Question to Purzner the lying sack of shit RN, if you thought these tapes were a bribe to your bum boy, Mark Brown, why didn’t you turn them over to the proper authorities in 1998? Why didn’t Mark Brown turn them in to the proper authorities? What a couple (Purzner & Brown) of snakes in the grass and out of the grass.

What was with Owenswig flashing photos of Mr. Silva at Chief Herron, during a Council Meeting? What was Owenswig’s point to all that? Why does Owenswig keep these post mortem photos of Mr. Silva? What a sick shit!!!!
Knode's Prop T plan would die in committee, if the committee consisted entirely of logical and reasonable individuals. We have no reason to imagine any committee consisting of even one ORT member to be well-run and effective.
When asked for documents, Knode rants that he knows of some alleged person who believes they heard that utility taxes paid for trash sometime during the last millenium.
Utility taxes really aren't that much. A resident pays nearly $200 per year for trash hauling, while utility taxes might be as much as half that.
Mr. Herman's outrage wasn't over the top. The noisy slamming of the water-pitcher reminds me of many speakers who get the audience's attention by similar means.
I do not see ORT as being in its death throes, while I pray I am wrong in this regard. I see ORT as a disease that's difficult to eradicate. I believe we citizens need to fight harder to prevent further damage and degradation by Knode, Owensby, Sellers & Purzner.

From your keyboard to God's ears. Unfortunately, there are some folks in our fair city who actually buy (and walk) the ORT line. Sad.
No doubt that the decadent ORT gang will crash and burn as a result of their own stupid nefarious schemes and actions. The problem is that they are taking our city down with them. It may take years to repair the damage they have wrought. Since The Queen of Sleaze and Deception made her infamous debut in April, Overland has been an object of ridicule nationwide.
I applaude the efforts of the Fabulous Four Good Guys on the Council, patient and steadfast Linda Downs, Hero Herron and usually cool headed Bob Herman, who faithfully attempt to maintain some sanity in the insane proceedings that are our City Council Meetings. This, despite the repeated tantrums of bewigged baby Owensby who is steadily disruptive with his hysteronic howling and crazy Knode with his ceasless idiotic "comments". This group could keep a team of mental health professionals occupied for years to come, especially if you include the faithful ORT groupies.
Can we realistically expect heroic candidates to enter the fray? Will the Godfather (Brown} send forth and back more of his criminal element to try to replace the fallen ORT? Stay tuned folks, and be prepared for a helluva fight to resurrect our city. We must not let 4 rotten apples spoil the lot.
