Identity Crisis

"I wish this group of concern citizens would have worked against the board when they lied to everyone about electing the police chief, that was a right that we had and the promise was made that we the citizens would be able elect our police chief in the future." FINEWINE.

Hey Goat, I understand you are slipping a little in retirement, but your FINEWINE persona just moved to Overland recently and was learning about the political history of Overland from his/her neighbor Amuzing Goat.

Why would FINEWINE be using first-person when posting about events that happened before he/she moved to Overland? Why would FINEWINE use the plural form of "we" in the past-tense to describe events that he/she was not around to witness or participate.

Make a post-it note with and put it in the corner of the screen as a reminder of which identity your are currently using to post. I really thought you were a better liar than that, but you are human. You make mistakes just like honest people.

I am still in shock after last night’s council meeting.

Before me appeared a vision: of style, beauty, grace and goodness.

Could it be real? I rubbed my eyes in disbelief.

But, yes, it was true. Standing before me was none other than:

WANDA! She’s ALIVE!

It was as if the entire City of Overland let out one gigantic sigh of relief.

After all, poor Pickles was looking awfully lonely sitting on those uncomfortable bleachers all by herself meeting after meeting.

It broke my heart to glance at her pitiful, pouty expressions.

Hurray! Wanda and Pickles, the “Troublemint Twins” have been reunited.

This dynamic duo will now combine their special powers to spread an avalanche of lies, deception and propaganda throughout the City.

I can hardly stand the anticipation.

Last night’s meeting did not occur due to the lack of a quorum. I did not see Mr. O’Connell at the community center. But if he was and later left, I believe he may have been employing the “purzner political maneuver”, an action named for the first Overland councilperson to use it the prevent a quorum and stop a vote.

Funny how, FINE WINO PICKLE BLUE MUSICAL GOAT (that should cover them), always cry about the same thing over and over and over. Music Wino Goat has talked about this "electing the cheif" in the past, way before she invented the FINE WINO persona...who was new to Overland and the big bad city...ya'll, hey man ...uh dude.

Another amuzing Goatish thing, why is it when a Councilperson who does not support the, Lying Mayor Con RN, walks out or does a no show, the ORT supporters call it cowardly.... but when the ORT and Mayor Purzner Con, that are famous for no shows and walking out, do that the ORT supporters say nothing!! "I swear to God Mike"

Can someone please confirm whether he was sick, had a real conflict or was merely pulling the Purzner pullout?

I need to know.

Recently it was suggested that Overland abandon the 4 wards concept and elect an entire board at large. Though Chapter 77, Section 77.030 appears to prevent this in third class cities, let's assume there is a work around of some sort (so I don't have to research it). :-)

I don't think this approach would be wise. For example, several people in Ward 3 have been up in arms about their lack of representation on the City Council in the last 10 months or so. However, last I knew Ward 3 had the lowest number of registered voters of any ward in the City. If we went with a "Council at Large" approach wouldn't it be likely that Ward 3 could end up not being represented at all as a result?

Oh dear!

It seems my previous reference to pouty Pickles has made her quite the Sour Pickle today:

"...Overland Sailor and I are the only ones who have enough guts to give our names. How 'bout the rest of you chicken s@#%'s If you aren't ashamed or scared of who you are let's hear your identity."

OK, OK! Just for you, Sweaty. Here's my website!

Luckster lets talk about the appeals process again. Say March 2nd or March 5th? Or do you think she will just take a pass?

Lucky I was really surprised Doug Rudeman wasn't there last night. Maybe he was busy preparing his briefs.

Maybe Doug is jumping ship like the rest of them.

Rumor has it, there are a few people at city hall that are planning their resignations right after April 3rd.

Sorry Sweety, you and using the word honest, I about fell off my chair. If you're so proud of who you are & support why didn't you give your name to the Post when you where front and center?

I don't recall you coming clean as Sailor did, your reputation just happen to follow you.

Pickles is delusional! She states only her and Sailor have revealed their true identities. However, everytime I mentioned her real name (and never in the context of "real name" aka Pickles) she was up in arms about my "using real names." Or basically implied that she is so full of shit that she doesn't want her real name tied to anything. So which is it, Pickles: you've been up front about your name or you dont' want us to use your real name?!
Well, my daddy says if you can't stand behind what you say maybe you should sit down and shut up.
BTW, I have never hidden my identity and have always used a derivative of my first and last names (easier than typing out the whole shebang each time).

FineWine uses the exact same wording (same fine whine?) about electing the police chief as Goat. This is why we know you are one in the same or at least share a brain.

BTW, how bad of an idea is it to politicize such an important position as police chief?
I say it should be filled by most qualified not most popular.

Sweety,

You dare put yourself in the same catagory as Sailor. You do have balls the size of elephants.

I wish I had the same fun house mirror you have been looking into.

Voted for, or appointed, the police chief is a political position.

If elected there is the possibility of ethical issues where a chief takes it easy on political supporters in order to keep the campaign money flowing or risk loosing their job.

If appointed, there is the possibility of ethical issues where a chief has to do whatever a Mayor and Council tell them to do (regardless of right or wrong) or loose their job.

With each version there are issues and politics. The question is, which is the better approach overall? Prior to this administration I believed appointment was the answer. Now I am far from sure on that.

Sailor,
True on each having its own ethical dilema.
However, what I meant is that someone totally unqualified could run for chief (e.g. Me!). And with an apathetic or uninformated electorate, there is a possibility for someone unqualified (like me) to win.
You would hope that the appointment process would only consider those duly qualified.

True, though to the best of my knowledge the Mayor could still choose to appoint someone totally unqualified and as long as a majority of the Council agreed there would be no stopping it.

One solution to this problem I imagine would be to have an ordinance in place to detail minimum requirements for the position. This solution could resolve that issue with either an elected or appointed approach I believe.

Good idea! At one point there had been some discussion on that issue for ALL positions within the city. I know it was recommended after an audit.
Sigh...you know that city administrator idea looks better and better each day.
