Past Baggage?

According to the Post article, Schneider is running because we need "someone who doesn't have any past baggage."

Exactly how is baggage defined?

Is baggage defined as just sitting there and letting Purzner destroy the city while O'Connell and May stood up against Ann?

Conversely, is it defined as a long-term commitment to the city and the ability to overcome obstacles and temporary defeats to do what is best for the city?

Is this just a quote to gloss over Schneider’s short-term residency?

Suzy,
You have a very good point there. Schneider was very silent during most of the Council Meetings. I often asked myself why Schneider didn’t speak up more at the Council Meetings. Schneider seems to be a very nice and friendly man, but I don’t think he possesses the strong leadership qualities to be a Mayor. Schneider did just sit there silently whilst May and O’Connell did all the vocal work to protect Overland from a destructive Mayor (Purzner)and the ORT Councilmen.

This is NOT a slam against Schneider what so ever, these are just my thoughts on the matter. I believe he voted wisely during his term this past year on the Council.

NGIT,
Yes, he voted the way I wanted on most issues.
I didn't intend this to be a slam on Schneider. More calling him on slamming others.

Suzy,
I didn’t interpret your post as being a slam. I am curious too, as to what Schneider meant by saying “past baggage”, and to whom is he referring to when he said that?

I believe he was referring to the other likely mayoral candidates.

Past baggage refers to a person's inability to let-go of the past making decisions based more on their past grudges rather than sound policy analysis.

Don't you love when folks like SweatyPickle acknowledge their lack of credibility, integrity and good-faith by qualifying certain questions as being sincere?

Why would you need to qualify your thoughts as sincere unless for the most part they are insincere.

Sweetpickles,
Mr. May "set" an election date for August 7th. It still has to be voted on by the Council. Just because May "set" a date, this does not make it a definite thing. I think he is just getting the ball rolling just incase there will be an August election. I sure hope there is one in August! I still can’t for the life of me figure out why you stick your nose in our business. Isn’t there enough action in Maryland Heights to keep you busy? Do you go to St. Ann’s town hall meetings and stick your nose in their business? What other cities besides Overland do you pester?

As for the cost of an election, Sweetpickles, why are you so concerned about the cost? You weren’t concerned about costs, when your buddy Purzner, was soaking Overland with litigation costs because of her inept behavior.

Sweetpickles,
Who the heck is “afraid” of you attending Overland’s Council meetings? Afraid of you staring at their ass? What? Just because you have an Aunt that owns property here and you help her out, you nose around in our business over and beyond what is necessary? I have a Mother that lives elsewhere and I help her out, I’ll be damned if I go nose around in their local business. I have a disabled sister with MS, that lives elsewhere and I help her out, I’ll be damned if I nose into their local business, that is not my place to do so. I have better things to do with my time.

And yes, my property taxes are paid IN FULL, what does that have to do with the price of beer in Milwaukee, and you scaring people at meetings?

Who isn’t giving Keller a chance? She isn’t even officially on the Council yet. I have stated my opinion that I am suspect of her because of her alignment with Owenswig and the ORT. Any person with half a brain should be suspect of the ORT and “friends”. And the goofy lie that she possesses an IQ of 160, which was ridiculous. Kind of like the goofy lie Purzner told about being an RN and attending Maryville. I see a pattern here…..hmmmmmmm. I have stated a few times before that I am hopeful Keller does a 360 and removes herself from the clutches of Owensby and the ORT, and DOES think for herself and sees the light.

She won't have a problem separating herself from Blowensme given that he attends at most 50% of Council meetings and 0% of other community events.

Here is another of Sweaty Pickle's notoriously tedious rhetorical questions. It is a foundation of the passive-aggressive personality type. Rather than directly saying what they really are thinking, they pretend like they are asking "sincere questions". Sweaty, you don't like Jerry May. We know that.

"How can the announcement be made that the filing will open for the Mayor's race, when they have not voted when to put it on the ballot???"

Then she replies to a very reasonable answer with:

"Seriously, I am not making a fuss, I do not think it is a oversight.

You now have a council that can be assured of any decision they make they can pass, they now have the votes."

No big deal to say that you do not like Jerry May and believe he is acting beyond his capacity as Mayor pro-temp evidenced by his posting notice of an August election prior to official council vote on holding election in August.

See how direct and informative it is. Stop pretending to ask objective questions when you are seeking to express your opinion. Just express the opinion Sweaty.

Make argument. Provide evidence for your argument. Restate argument.

That would be a genuine manner in which to discuss your opinion Sweaty. It is a new day and not too late for you to discuss Overland issues in an honest way.

Yep Gravy, looks like Blue Eyed Wino Musical Goat trotted to the forefront. The fun never ends. I wonder if this is number I or II? Is this the persona that claims to be an astronaut or some such thing? Is this the male or female Blue Eyed Wino Musical Goat? I would venture to guess, the female persona.

I could be mistaken, but I believe the cost of the election is very low when they are having one anyway, as in August and November.
With the inception of the electronic voting machines and everything being on memory cards,( so to speak) you don't have the cost of printing the punch cards.
Now if it was a special election, that is a different story,( $20-25,000) Having to pay poll workers who would not be there except for your special election. And a special note to danny who has decided to put up or shut up. Please run for Mayor.

I admire you NGIT, I would need a chalk board and a score card to keep it all straight!

LOL..c3missile, it becomes old hat after awhile. Although it can be confusing at times, especially when one of the persona’s has a I and a II. So the split personality becomes split, so the personality that splits starts to multiply. Yikes………holy cow…this is nuts, kind of like a Science Fiction movie.

I have never made a dime off of any of these people, Ann, Owensby, Brown, Karam, not one dime..... If you knew these people very well, you'd know that it's a close race other than Ann... who is the cheapest or tighter one.

Um...I seem to recall seeing Purzner's campaign report from her most recent mayoral race where it was reported that Donna Dill was paid $600+ dollars.

2:50 PM
Blogger suzyjax said...

Give her a break. $600 is not one dime, but rather 6000 dimes.

Next excuse--she was paid by check not in coins.

If I remember, she said all of that went to a delivery man for services rendered. She did not keep 1 thin dime.

Why would you bring up the cost for an elec. in Aug. when you knew good & well there is already one scheduled. What just thought you'd throw more sheep dip in the pile.

What part of YOU DO NOT LIVE HERE BUT OUT, do you not understand.

I'll take you're 30 yrs invested & 1 aunt & trump that with 50 some odd yrs & 495 relatives.

Just my opinion.

1. I think May should be voted in again as mayor pro-tem. I personally think he deserves it. If it were not for him fighting those 1st couple of months & the rest of the year, who knows what she would have gotten away with.

2. I have spoken with Schneider & like him a lot. My concern is that he has only been on the council for a year & only back in Overland a couple. And I have a problem with him keeping so quiet all year. He not only did not speak or fight when I thought he needed to, I did not see where he contributed anything either. I would be much more impressed if he stepped up now & did not run for mayor this time. If Conlon wins she would only be mayor for what a little less then 3 yrs. Then after, if he feels he can do a better job, go for it.

3. I do not trust Keller at all, I don't care if she has not even been sworn in. She has already proved she can lie with no problem. One, when she said she was not affilated with any group & when she lied about Ann at the St. Pat's luncheon.

4. As far as Conlon, I think she would make a good mayor but after talking to her I think she needs to listen just a little more to what people have to say. I also heard she wants mayor pro-tem. I can understand why she wants it but she was not the one up there fighting the past year. I think she should vote for May, I think it would show a lot of class on her part.

5. I personally, I guess like many do not want to see another 3 way split.

Sweaty,

As far as what May can or can't do & the fact they've already posted the run for mayor. Unlike our previous mayor, May did ask the advice of the city atty. first.

Hey, maybe Ann should have tried that.

And who was it, Hands that questioned if they are breaking a Sunshine law. Where the hell were you when Annie was breaking all of them. Why don't you go shove your head in some of that sheep dip Sweaty is shoveling.

When I read this I have to say I think this is the worst possibel scenario for Overland.

Why would this Mike Schneider jepordize this city and run when he hasn't done anything on the council? I resent it too. I sat at home, and in the audience sometimes and thought to myself why is this guy just sitting there not standing up and saying anything for our city. Now I know why he was sucking up to the Purzner people the whole time. Who is really behind this guy? Wake up Overland he's been playing it both ways the whole time. I guess he figures we are all just suckers.

I too had difficulty with the new blogger sign in but after reading today's Post Dispatch I got it running together and figured it out.

I just had to post after finding out my councilman who has been on the board for not even a year is running for Mayor. I am totally unimpressed.

I thought his comment was a real cheap shot but what do you expect.
You can already see the difference.

Joe, you are right he's been playing both sides. My neighbor friend in the know, says he is backed by Dody, Chuck Boone, Leo Stucckey, Phil Paul, Frank Munsch which is so hillarious since I read Sweaty has endorsed him too.

I'm sure she'll change her mind after they throw in the other 5 people to split the vote and get a Brownie back in.

Special thanks to Mike Schneider and all those loyal supporters of his who just could never get enough. Thanks for coming to our rescue and throwing gasoline on the fire.

Joe,
I disagree with you about Schneider "sucking up" to the Purzner people. How exactly or in what way did Schneider "suck up" to the Purzner people? Schneider voted down the ORT crap they threw on the Council. He may not have been very vocal about the shenanigans the ORT were pulling, but he voted wisely, whilst on the Council this past year. In all fairness, I see no connection with the ORT and Shneider what so ever.

Sure NGIT He made a verbal deal with Ann and Roland to be appointed to P&Z when it was another Councilman's turn. It rotates between wards. I heard it went down something like this I won't say anything to make you, Ken,Rich and Tom look bad just appoint me to P&Z board I'll remain silent. That was the news many heard about and was all over a few months ago and I have no reason to doubt it. He's a wheeler dealer for his own benefit.

9:12 AM
Blogger New Girl in Town said...

I wonder why the Councilman that should have been appointed to the P&Z board didn't speak up about Schneider being appointed out of turn?
Joe, if this is true, I'm very disappointed in him :-(

BTW, Joe thank you for your explanation.

NGIT that councilman was Owensby and as I have heard from a birdie was part of the grand scheme of things for Schneider replacing Sellers. It went from 2 to 4 skipping 3.

This is what I have heard I am confident that he set himself up quite nicely.

My view is I have no doubt he voted correctly all along; but he was willing to do make a deal to further himself for his own personal gain at the expense of holding them accountable. That does not make him a leader it makes him an opportunist.

another point about Pickle's lies

Dill was the be middle-man for lit delivery? And, if that is the case, is this a legitimate business that she runs? Or, was this just a method of not correctly reporting who was getting paid?

Inquiring minds--and the ethics commission--want to know.

I think Mr Schneider is quiet because he listens. You hear more that way and then he decides. I like the fact that he is level headed and listens to everything first. I would like a Mayor like that myself, one that listens to all sides. As far as his short term residency he graduated from Ritenour in 1969. He may have moved away for awhile but so what, he came back HOME. Home is where the heart is.
