Facts, but no Snacks
Thanks Gravy for all of the related news in regards to the residency requirements and staying on the ballot.
For those interested in the actual hearing itself on the petition filed in Circuit Court, that will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday (6/22). I think it will be beneficial to hear the facts firsthand and urge everyone to come out and see for themselves.
Updated 11:15 AM: This will be held in the Division 9 courtroom.

Blueeyes, The answer to your inquiry is "yes and no". When Schneider ran for city council, his opponents might have checked his personal property records, saw that there was no information and assumed it was because he just moved back in the previous year (since one gets a tax waiver that first year). Now, here comes the second year and still no information. That might raise eyebrows and lead folks to further investigation. Which is probably why people didn't catch it on the first race but did on the second.
However, I completely think you may be on to something about why Schneider was so quiet last year. I just assumed it was either a lack of fortitude or because he knew he would run for mayor and didn't want to offend anybody. (Though I have found those who intend to not offend anybody, usually offend EVERYBODY with their lack of stance.)
Also, even if Schneider was kicked off the council (which is NOT part of the issue with the petition before the court), I don't think his votes would be "null and void". I don't think any court is going to try to "unring the bell" and make a city recreate and revote every issue for the past 15 months.

Heads Up, Teens beware. Parents hide your children.
Eric Tolen, Mark Brown's friend, colleague, attorney and full-time pedophile was released from prison on bond this morning.

I have started a service modeled after the successful Amber Alert program. As you know, Amber Alerts are issues when a minor child is missing or abducted. The Eric Alert works the other side of the coin, when a child molester is released from prison pending trial, an Eric Alert will be issued for the surrounding counties in order to put parents on notice that a pedophile has been released from state custody.
Blueeyes,
Please remember that Schneider did not file to run until the very last hour of the very last day. It would have been pretty 'ner imposible to have someone file after him.
Good idea, Gravy!
This should be issued over the Emergency Alert system especially for those Overland residents near Woodson and Page (in case Tolen decides to visit his law office).
Blue Eyes,
I asked that very same question, as to why Schneider’s residency wasn’t questioned when he ran for Council.
I guess nobody looked into it, and accepted the sworn statement from Schneider as the truth. I could see why Schneider got a tax waiver for 2005 because of the timing of him moving to Overland, what raised eyebrows was the waiver for 2006 also (after he was elected for Councilman). Apparently all this just came to light recently. Some diligent citizen must have just found this out recently and brought this to our attention. We will just have to wait and find out what the facts and findings are in this case.
It’s not as if somebody knew over a year ago that Schneider was going to run for Mayor, and laid in wait to bring this information forth. I highly doubt there was some sort of plot against Schneider. But fair is fair, the laws and bylaws are for ALL to adhere to, not just for some.
Regardless of all the background information, spousal patsies, false business claims and errant interpretations of residency shell game, there was a point in time during the waiver application process whereby a representative of St. Louis County directly asked the Schneiders to declare the date at which they moved back into Overland the Schneider's replied February of 2006.
If Schneider's wife made a mistake in her declaration for the couple, why didn't Mr. Schneider correct the mistake upon realization by paying his 2005 county tax obligations?
Paying your taxes is a patriotic act. Gaming the tax system in order to avoid paying the full tax owed is not patriotic. I wonder about the veracity of a person who constantly wraps himself in "the flag" through touting their service record publicly while simultaneously working on ways to push their tax burden onto others by manipulating the residency requirement and thereby avoiding their statutory tax responsibility.
I only wrap myself in the flag as long as someone else pays for it.
Remember, when directly asked, the Schneider's consciously and premeditatedly declared Feb 2006.
"Doesn't any of this make you wonder and raise your eye brows and scratch your head??"
No none of this information makes me wonder and raise an eyebrow.
It goes to the fact that there is only one candidate willing to put in the homework necessary to govern within the confines of the law. If this information was not discovered during Schneider's run, shame on the opposing candidate for not conducting due diligence or background check.
Conlon "dot's her 'i's and crosses her 't's" and is willing and able to roll-up her sleeves and do the work necessary to run an effective campaign.
Why would the old boy's care about researching their candidate's background when they know they will be able to control him when he is in office? They would nominate Ken Owensby if they thought him to be as much of an empty suit as Schneider.
Conlon didn't start opposition research until she had opposition. The fact this information was discovered after the last day to file as candidate had passed was because Mr. Schneider waiting until the last day to register.
Opposition research is only necessary when there is an opposition candidate.
EXACTLY !!!!
Blue Eyes: I'm not sure how long OverlandChat has been around. I believe the OVCC started right around the same time as the April 2006 election and the Overland Examiner started in July 2006.
How any of these sites could have been expected to research and present facts about a candidate running in an election (April 2005) that happened before the sites were online is beyond me. :-)
Sorry for the repost but apparently Blue Eyes missed the point in her reply to Overland Sailor.
Hey dumbass, read the following again. Hopefully it will register.

Sweetpickles,
I would hope people would see this petition (lawsuit) filed with the courts to render the decision of the legitimacy of Schneider’s residency and tax payments, as a logical and proper thing to do. The law is the law, we all have to follow it. That wouldn’t be fair to Keller or Mary Beth, if Schneider does not have to follow the same protocol (laws) as they did to run for Mayor. If Schneider supporters vote for Keller, just because they are miffed about Mary Beth exposing Schneider, then they are not voting for the right reasons. Voting for Keller, just because they are pissed at Mary Beth, would not be looking out for the best interest for Overland or themselves for that matter.
In my opinion, Keller is inexperienced and not competent to be Mayor. I’m sorry, a babysitter, general office worker and 2 months on the Council are not the greatest qualifications for the position of Mayor.
The following are Mary Beth’s accomplishments and qualifications I got from her website www.marybethconlon.com, I’m sure you will see the stark difference:
I have lived my entire life in Ward II. I went to Presentation Grade School for all eight years and graduated from Ritenour High School in 1984. I received an Associates Degree from Florissant Valley Community College and graduated with both Deans and Political Science Honors with a Bachelor of Science in Public Policy Administration (BSPPA) from the University of Missouri St. Louis. I have completed several hours of graduate Public Policy work. My interests include: Urban Revitalization and Rehabilitation, Economic and Community Development, Environmental Sustainability and Park Preservation.
Social Organizations I belong to:
Overland Historic Society
Garden Club of Ritenour
University of Missouri Alumni Association
UMSL Political Science Alumni Association
Missouri Botanical Garden
Forest Park Forever
Ritenour High School Alumni Association
Why would I conduct research on a candidate I am not running against nor live in his ward?
I never looked into his background before because he hasn't done anything prior to announcing his candidacy for Mayor.
I know you ORTian's are upset at the ineptitude of the Purzner administration. You folks never thought you could get the same outcome by removing an opposition alderman rather than filling the empty seat with a shill.
Why did this info come out now, no one took the time to look into his background.
I wonder why Schneider never mentions his selling Kenwood to Target stores after the Tupperware Home Office undercut all of their franchisees by selling directly to customers such as Target in 2002.
Omissions omissions omissions.
He also never mentions the net profit of his tupperware franchise but always mentions revenues.
Who cares what the revenues are if they do not cover costs.
You may not remember Sweaty, but it is Schneider's voters that ran your Pall Mall puffing pal out of office and you think they are going to then turn and vote Keller into office?
If you need to obfuscate and break the law in order to run for Mayor, then I suspect Mary Beth will be happy not to be Mayor.
If doing the "right thing" and complying with the law are considered political suicide, then the answer would be yes.
Ask your ORT Attorney Eric Tolens. He will tell you.
I think if/when Schneider is kicked off the ballot, it will go down one of several ways:
1) The Dody-ites will stay away from the polls.
2) They will scramble to find a write-in candidate
3) They will come to their senses and realize voting for MBC is worthy
But I really don't see any scenario where they enmasse vote for Keller.
Listening to Schneiders "workshop" I wasn't real surprised to hear him say he would talk with Dody and Paul, he is their boy we all know. What I was surprised to hear that he had a relationship with the Schroeders. He mentioned the Chief of Police of St Ann, this is the same guy who wanted to build $200,000 condo at Woodson and Argyle, the good ole Cold Water Creek Condo with membership in the River Des Peres Yacht Club. He was pushing for this while the Queen was in power, even showed up at a council meeting. He is also a long time political allie of none other than Skidmark Brown, check his campaign disclosure forms from the last election.
This guy is a petty con artist and flim flam man.
Suzyjax,
Stay away from the polls, them, never. I'm putting my money down on a write-in.
RacerX,
What a small world, I'd like to know when all these people have time to take a shit. Who aren't they connected with. I've heard rumors Schneider had met with Purzner & the likes before he ran for council. Hell, he'd been gone 20 yrs, I'd like to know how he got to know all of these people in the short time he's been back & apparently working both sides.
Depending on who ends up winning, has anyone heard who they plan on suggesting to take their place on council?
Fine Wine,
Your post to me was so “equally ignorant”, it does not warrant an explanation. Obviously you don’t know how to read when a sentence starts and finishes. You misinterpret anything and everything. Why do people on these boards have to explain everything to you 3 or 4 times before you get it, if you get it at all? It’s extremely taxing on the brain.
Does Romper Room have a chat/blog board?
I layer Schneider on his first said he had already hand picked a man name Lex Dill for his open spot. Conlon when asked on the video said at her forum that she is going to open the process up to all of her Ward residents and have people openingly apply for the job and get the most committed and educated person to fill her seat and that it would be done with a legitimitate and transparent interview process and with the full engagement and consent of the council. She said she wasn't going to hand pick someone that would rubber stamp everything. She wants a person who can think for themselves and has the best interest of Overland and brings education and real accomplished skills. That's the difference between the candidates Conlon is above board and won't pick a shill to rubberstamp it she wants the person who will best represent her ward. That speaks volumes. No wonder the old boys and the Brown bunch can't stand her she doesn't need them or want them. No love loss I'm sure. 1 Layer if Overland wants real change then the only candidate to vote for is Conlon.
One-twolayer,
I believe it was Mary Beth who said she will not “appoint” somebody to take her Council seat, if she wins the election. She would like candidates to come forth who are desirous of being on the Council and the Mayor (whom ever that will be) and Councilmen will collectively make a decision on that person who would be best to fill the empty seat. I don’t know what Schneider’s or Keller’s feelings are on this.
I think that would be the fairest way possible to fill the empty seat.
Truth Or Consequences,
You answered one of my questions, about Schneider, thank you.
I agree with you 100% about Mary Beth. She is a real strong forthright stand up woman. A true leader for our community.
Ritenour City?
I tried to watch the Snack and Facts meeting on the Overland Examiner but I couldn't get enough bandwidth to be able to hear a full sentence without buffering delays. I also understand that there were no snacks which seams like a bit of "bait n switch". Gotta keep your promises.
Mike Schneider is demonstrating a tremendous amount of naivety in his so-called policy prescriptions. Does Ritenour City mean that he plans to consolidate all of the municipalities within Ritenour School District into one municipality? Does he have any knowledge of St. Louis County's history. I am not going to recount the history here for Schneider but lets just say, Board of Freeholders anyone. He would have a better chance implementing same-sex marriages than re-drawing St. Louis County municipal boundaries. That is leadership.
Try showing you can administer the City and then you can make plans for his "warriors" to invade surrounding municipalities. Any thoughts on the financial impact of such a pipe dream?
This is just the type of policy preference that demonstrates that Mike Schneiders business experiences is not at all applicable, and in fact detrimental, to public administration. The Overland Neighbor helping Neighbor program discussed months ago has not helped on homeowner as of yet. This is not because of a lack of good will but a lack of time and resources. Most of us have enough of a challenge maintain our properties more or less volunteering sweat and capital to rehabbing a stranger's property. It is utopian, pie in the sky type thinking that will lead to more conflict than benefit. How would a city administer a program with asymmetric costs and benefits?
Nothing prevents neighbors helping neighbors right now, so why would someone think that bringing in government to administer such a program would induce neighbors to help neighbors?
Overland needs another box store like it needs another ORTian Mayor. First of all, we have a box store that was forthright enough to re-open the former K-Mart facility without the need for a tax abatement. Now, Mike "Mr. Business" Schneider wants to reward Home Depot by bringing in a competitor through using abatement and eminent domain.
How does selling-out your tax base and undercutting existing businesses in Overland define different. He is different enough to not make a difference as his ideas are ill-informed from both private and public angles.
Finally, if we are going to rationalize and disregard state law for political expediency, then we are no different from previous Overland administrations. There nothing different about that.
I don't think Mike Schneider is somehow evil, corrupt or purposely working to the detriment of the City, he is simply not qualified in terms of State Statute, education as well as actual experience.
T & C,
Thank you, it does speak volumes about both candidates. And I completely agree.
I guess Keller is keeping hers close to her chest.
Somehow we need a running list of all those connected, it's getting bigger by the day.
Schneider says it on his first Video on Sailor's website. I watched his video from the second one the other day it appears he is trying to seize some of Conlon's ideas but he doesn't understand them so he speakes in vague generalities.
He does great when he is talking about himself but he really struggles when he speaks about his plan for the city. He may elude to being a successful business man but I think he wants to be the King.
I fell off the couch when watching his video where he wants to take over the other cities. Do you honestly think the Mayor of St. Ann, St. John, WT and Breckenridge are going to bow down and seed their power over to a guy like Mike Schneider? No wonder he is buddying up to the chief of St. Ann's evidently a very good customer of Mark Brown's working both sides hey?
Schneider said on his video he wants this job really badly. Let's vote for Schneider because it will help his ego.
Again this Mayors race is about three candidates one candidate is a legend in his own mind another candidate wants has specific plans to improve Overland and puts the city first the other candidate is MIA.
Last thing been on vacation and have a lot to do a PHD in MIT? Come on Schneider give us a break Post Hole Diggers bought at Missouri Illinois Tractor. That's funny?
How about this no experience, no substance, no education, just a power grab to appease your own self interest. We don't need a King we have already had a Queen let's elect someone who actually has a plan and will change Overland for the better.
Right on Truth. Beside the shear impossibility of such a half baked idea, he offers no analysis of how such a consolidation helps the current residents of Overland or the residents in his targeted community.
Wait, I got it. It just came to me. Schneider is trying to consolidate with Maryland Heights in order to make SweatyPickle an Overland resident. She would lose her carpetbagger status.
Re: PhD from MIT
He should really take that cornball act to Branson.
I'm not sure what that actually means. Did you notice how he would rub his hands together when thinking of an answer. Awful nervous and unsure of his comments.
He just came across as an appallingly bad public speaker. At first, I was just listening and not watching. However, there would be these gaps where nothing was being said and I thought the video wasn't streaming properly. No--he was just taking these huge pauses between topics while he reviewed his notes.
Not that there is anything wrong with using notes--it just all seemed disconnected.
