Somethings to think about today

Onelayer's and Sailor's comments had me thinking about this Schneider situation further, and I had the following questions:

1) Does it matter if false statements to the department of revenue are made in writing or orally? Especially if such false statements result in a tax waiver.

2) Does it matter if a husband or wife makes false statement? Isn't one's actions binding on the other in such matters, especially if a tax waiver resulted from such a false statement?

I understand your concerns. It does matter if it is in writing or verbal simply because it is far more difficult to defend against a signed / written statement. If it is verbal you can argue that it never happened, that you were misinterpreted, etc (which may or may not be true).

Whether one spouse is held accountable for the actions of the other depends on what the action is.

For example: If a spouse commits a violent crime, the other is only considered to be responsible if they were in some way directly involved (as a conspirator either before or after the fact, or as a participant during the act). However, if a spouse crashes a car due to their own negligence and harms someone else the couple is generally held equally financially responsible since their finances are intertwined.

In this particular case, should the application for a waiver have been filed by the spouse and the DOR later determined that this waiver was unacceptable I imagine they both would be liable financially as above.

But, the statutes talk about the actions of the candidate, not their family so I am not sure that would apply here. My first instinct would be to say it would not but I wouldn't bet on it.

The bigger key for me is DOR's position on the waiver. If they find the waiver to be invalid, then I imagine that would benefit Councilperson Conlon. However, if they find that the waiver is proper, than I cannot see how Councilperson Schneider could loose this suit. DOR would seem to be a key component to this case in my opinion.

FineWine I was at the meeting where the Council agreed to move him to the Health and Rabies position back in April (or possibly very early May). I saw him at the Dog inoculation day behind the table with those doing the paperwork / giving the shots / etc.

Since this seems to be a consistant issue and the meeting was a public one I see no reason to skip over the fact that Chuck Boone explained to the council that this individual was not qualified to be an inspector, but was qualified to be a Health and Rabies officer. He was asking if they had intended bring the position back and when they said they were doing that in the 2006/2007 budget he then asked to move this person to that position. They OKed it and he was moved.

There is the possiblity that the City does not yet have the equipment they need for him to do the job. Otherwise, either you talked to someone who is incompetent or your memory is faulty.

I would suggest you call Public Works Directly and ask to speak to the Health and Rabies officer.

Just saw the same. For those that missed it the story is here.

First the insurance agent with the child porn, now this. Are we seeing a pattern developing here or it is just a coincidence?

Sweetpickles I guess it depends on what you call a "long time". In a city where people are still regularly complaining about Mayor Munch, Eric Tolen's representation of former Mayor Ann Purzner during the recount and Chief Herron Case seems like recent news.

This is not to say that I am suggesting former Mayor Purzner was in anyway involved in the Child Porn allegations against the insurance agent she recommended to the city or the child sodomy charges against her former attorney. However, it does cause a person to pause and wonder about it. After all there is the old saying that "people judge you by the company you keep".

To be fair to former Mayor Purzner, though we have not heard or seen a lot of her lately she was seen on my block this morning visiting one of my neighbors assumably to deliver meals-on-wheels.

Connect the dots.

Ann Purzner, Owensby, Sellers, Knode. Brown, Karam, Joe King, Matthew McWilliams, who will be next in line to go.

Ann Purzner gone

Joe King gone

Matthew McWilliams gone

Eric Tolen, soon to be gone, hopefully

Karam, just heard he's off the board of MSD, anyone else heard that.

Tolen & Brown mixed with St. Charles when Brown was on the board.

Doesn't take much to put it all together. Can't wait for the rest of the house of cards to fall.

Sweety,

Let's see Brown has known Ann for how many years now, 15 to 20. Brown used Tolen over in St. Charles a couple of years ago, all of the sudden Ann is using him here, DUH. News says they have been investigating him for the last 10 yrs. Oh, forgot that's right Brown had no idea who he was hiring or dealing with.

Brown brought Matthew McWilliams to St. Charles, then Ann wanted him here.

Brown seems to be connected with all the wrong people. But then again, aren't you connected with Ann. Darn the luck.

I guess that explains the "Tidy Whitey" porn ad, in Ann Purzner's Overland Watch rag.

What is with all of these disgusting low life scum bag pedophiles that are mixed up with the ORT and friends?
Whoa...this is some really serious stuff going down. I wonder who is next? It makes me shudder to think Tolen opened a practice here in Overland.

Sweetpickles These are not the only issues with these "gentleman". There is the alleged connection between the Insurance Broker and the Conviction of the Berkley City Administrator (more info here). Than there are the reasons for Mr. Tolen's departure from the U.S. Attorney's Office.

And that is just we those two. I don't have the time or desire to get into the long list of characters and their assorted wrong doings. It has all be aired on various websites before, so if someone is unsure of what I am talking about I suggest to read back through the various archives that are available.

As I said before, we tend to be judged by the company we keep. If you take hard look at the people around you, and you don't like what you see, you need to make a change. If you don't then you really only have yourself to blame if people perceive you negatively.

FINE WINE,
The ORT is alive and well. Look at Knode’s carnival like website, it's a joke, as was Purzner’s site. Knode and Owesnby are backing Keller. Keller's campaign for Councilperson reeked of Brown's "trash" and the ORT. Keller consorts with these people on her own accord. The only surprise Keller could give us, is to step down from the Mayoral race.

I was told there will be 2 mayoral debates coming up in the next couple of weeks or so. Don't know the dates as of yet. One I heard will be at the Lion's Club & heard the OBA is putting on the other.

I'll bet St. Charles is glad to be rid of Brown and his unsavory "friends". I wonder what town Brown will prey upon next?
Brown and his “friends” are not welcome here in Overland or St. Charles. Maybe Brown and his band of merry men/women will hit up Maryland Heights next.
