What's the difference between Conlon's Mayoral run and Keller's given their recent successful campaigns for the Council?
One keen difference between Conlon and Keller is that Conlon has always said she would run for Mayor again and never represented otherwise. Conlon voters wanted her to win the council seat held by ORT Representative Tom Sellers and new she would run for Mayor again at first opportunity.
Keller, under the other hand, constantly railed against Purzner's opposition on the Council for not filling the empty Wort 3 seat vacated by Purzner. Two months later she files to run for Mayor thus opening the possibility of another empty Wort 3 seat.
Again, what has changed for Ms. Keller?

Hey the difference is Conlon is actually qualified to be the Mayor the other two aren't. His silence last year was unacceptable. May and O'Connell carried the weight even Corcoran spoke but not Schneider. He never challenged them he just sat there and let the others fight for the city. That's not leadership that's playing both sides folks.

My post was in response to your post entitled: "AUDIT BY THE STATE?? WHY NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
The why not is simple. We have no specific reason to spend approximately twice as much for the audit. It's ridiculous and irresponsible to spend the extra money with no justification in my opinion.
I stand by that answer. Until someone points out an actual reason why we should pay for such an audit I will oppose it. The fact is, Councilman Owensby had been asked for specifics on several occasions and he has had no answer but silence and blank stares.
As for the City Administrator, we can afford it because the only way the city is going to move forward, develop businesses and thus increase revenues is with professional management at the top.
Where had the city spent money for the good of the city? There is the police department, public works, and City hall, all filed with people working hard daily on things that benefit the city and its residents.
The bottom line is that revenues have been flat for years, but the cost of operation of the city (like the cost of living for all of us) has continued to climb. Services have to be cut to balance the budget. The only way to change this is to work on ways to grow the revenue. The key to that in my opinion is a quality city administrator.
Box Stores to the rescue. Retail Retail, Retail, is the answer to flat revenues.
Let's sell out on the cheap by giving a box store like Lowes a big chunk of someone else's property so that we can have more parking lots, more traffic, more low wage jobs and the best part of it all is that we can kick the Wesche Brothers in the groin again for their 50 years of service to the community.
Anyone know of a big party supply retailer we can use to displace existing businesses in Overland?

No I have never attended the employee Christmas party as I have never been a full time employee of the City. No doubt FineSwine was there even though she wasn't a full-time employee either. It is even more obvious when you are out of town and don't read the chat site for awhile, how out of touch they are with what is going on. To have a hint of an intelligent conversation, it helps to know what class of city we are and the basic rules that apply. We CAN NOT have a City Manager, as we do not have that form of Government with the class of city we are. Maybe you chat people can get all these pesky detail questions answered by Mrs. Keller.
I am sure she is up on all of this info, just ask her at her meet and greet session. This is funny stuff!

Overland's form of Government allows for a City Administrator. A City manager is an entirely different form of Government as you can see in this MO. Municipal League Publication on Forms of Government.
Overland could potentially become a Council-Manager form of Government, however that would likely reduce the Council to 4-5 members who would be elected "at-large" not per ward. I believe that was one of the main problems people had with this form when it was briefly considered around the same time we went from being 3rd class to a 4th class city.
Though The Hands is correct, Maplewood is a City Manager form of Government and they seem to be doing pretty well, Berkley is also a City Manager form of government and as you can see here that didn't work out all that well.
Seems to me the form of government has less to do with what that government accomplishes than the people chosen to run in it.
