Something interest in the Post

Today's post has a small blip in their Law & Order section on Friday's hearing. I found the last paragraph particular interesting.

Schneider's attorney, Thomas Blumenthal, argued that a Minnesota corporation that Schneider had owned before returning to Missouri had properly paid the taxes. If Schneider owes Missouri taxes, Blumenthal added, the delinquency was the result of a clerical error by the St. Louis County Collector of Revenue's office.

I attened the entire hearing. Never was any evidence brought forth that Schneider's corporation had paid the Missouri taxes that were due.
Perhaps, Blumenthal is implying that the taxes were paid in Minnesota. If so, that would be an odd tactic because:
1) The vehicles were primarily in Missouri and any Minnesota tax is a moot point.
2) Minnesota does NOT have personal property taxes. (Which makes you think the vehicles were never registered before April 2006 to avoid paying such taxes.)

The Council for the Blind is coming this week. I've been cleaning out my closets and will happily be putting my COGG shirt in the bag. What I worked for appears to be all in vain. The group which I supported has become something it was not intended to be. This issue is not about the Revenue Department making a mistake this issue is about a declaration made by the Schneiders that they moved here in 2006. If they lived here in 2005 then he would owe taxes in 2006. Why would you protest paying the taxes if you admit you lived here in 2005. Why did they not follow the law and register it with MO plates in 2005. Why?

It's oxymoronic the organization is suppose to be Citizens Of Overland For Good Government. People that believe in good government follow the rules and pay their taxes in a timely manner.

All Cogged Up,

Ditto:

It's also depressing to think our taxes have been paying him $500 a month. Add it up $7,000 for the past 14 mths. he's been on the council. How smart was he, we were paying for someone that supposedly didn't even live here.

After what Suzyjax wrote maybe he thought he was still in Min., then claim ignorance, he didn't know but he knew enough to ask for the waivers.

Please don’t think your work was in vain, I’m sure your intentions were good ones. Purzner was removed, because of your hard work. But now I have to wonder why a lot of the COGG people support Schneider? Do they think trying to squirrel out of paying taxes, is good government? That kind of “good government” we don’t need.

Suzy,
That claim of Schneider’s company paying the taxes is bogus. If that were the case, Schneider would not have received a past due notice from the Revenue department, with penalties and interest, then pay it under protest. Schneider could have simply provided a receipt that it was paid. As Sir Walter Scott said, “Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive. But my how we improve the score, as we practice more and more”

one-twolayer,
You are absolutely right, Schneider knew enough how to cheat the Revenue system, but pleads ignorance on how to pay them. I hope Schneider doesn't think he can cheat and pull the wool over us citizens of Overland. How can Schneider's supporters condone this sort of behavior from a public official?

New Girl,

Because right now he's all they got. There is no way they were going to back MaryB, they can't control her. Look at who Brown/Purzner people put in Keller, come on, how desperate was that. But again, they can control her. Both sides are scrapping the bottom of the barrel.

Neither side wants to let go, apparently there's more at stake then we are aware of.

New Girl,

What I find interesting is that a when all this came out the supporters of Schneider were furious at MaryB & couldn't have been more vocal about it.

I have ran into several of them since all this has come out & it's amazing how none of them want to talk about it, I mean nothing. Not the election, debate coming up, the trial nothing.

I can't wait to see how all that changes with the decision tomorrow. If he get's kicked off you won't hear another word about him, they'll be to busy looking for a write-in, if he remains they'll be back to bashing MaryB.

I'm sure they will be bashing MBC tommorrow. Sounds like he will wiggle out of this based on him not being in arrears of taxes on May 22nd. Absent that the only reason he wasn't in arrears is that he had a waiver based on declaring he became a resident in 2006. Sound's like he has been held accountable by the Collector of Revenue and forced to pay back taxes with penalties all of this because of Conlon's petiiton.

Good point Cogg why pay in protest? If you lived here in 2005 then you do owe taxes in 2006.

My guess he gets off on this.

So much for integrity, truthfulness, and good citizenship.

I'm of the opinion that there is no such thing as good government in Overland
