Wedge: Not Trivial Pursuit, Not the Intersection of Midland/Woodson/Milton
According to a story in today's Post, Schneider is claiming that MBC's petition has put a wedge between the two. Is he saying he cannot do his job on the City Council because of his bitterness?
Or perhaps, he is saying that this is a wedge issue, defined as a sharply divisive political issue.
Since when is paying your taxes a "wedge issue"?
Schneider is also saying that we have heard only "part of the story". Well, we are listening and waiting for--as Paul Harvey would put it--"the rest of the story".

Since when is not paying your taxes & still getting to run for office not become an issue.
What I got out of the article is that Schnieder is being a baby and saying he won't/can't work with Conlon. However this shakes out, the losers in the mayoral race will still be members for the city council. How does it look when Schneider says he won't work with someone--espcially when the underlying issue is that they made him pay his taxes?
The only wedge is Schneider’s under pants in a bundle, because Mary Beth held him accountable for paying his taxes that were past due. Why should Schneider not pay his taxes, Mary Beth and Keller had to have theirs paid. Schneider is just embarrassed that he got busted, period. Then you got Keller saying in her Localite ad, “I am the only candidate not involved in a lawsuit”…..well jeepers crow there Keller, that is not a coup, why didn’t you back Mary Beth on this issue? Or does Keller look the other way when there is foul play? This whole town of Overland should have backed Mary Beth on this issue, to hold Schneider accountable for not paying his taxes and giving a false declaration. Keller should have been just as concerned as Mary Beth was, but obviously Keller is self serving.
In the Post article, MBC is quoted as saying "If I had to do it all over again, I would. If we'd not brought the petition to court, Mr. Schneider would not have been held accountable."
I think MBC should stand for Moxie Beyond Compare.
New Girl,
So true. Instead of sitting on the sidelines, why doesn't Keller say something in support of local taxes? No, she only chooses to make political hay.
The only wedge I see is found in the difference between the amount Mike Schneider owes the County and the amount he is willing to pay.
It matters not what Schneider did or didn't pay in Minnesota Property Taxes as he was living and operating the vehicle in question within St. Louis County. No matter who or what owns the vehicle, it was under his control and he was living in St. Louis County.
Schneider's delinquency in paying his taxes is not a determination that the St. Louis County Collector of Revenue is to make. The Collector of Revenue collects revenue and is not in the business of determining whether someone is delinquent or not. For the bureau, you either owe PPT or due not owe PPT. This is why the Collector would not say that Schneider was delinquent because he is not qualified to make this legal determination. It is outside of the Collector's statutory authority.
The determination of delinquency is not subject to interpretation but rather a matter of law and defined within State and Federal Statutes.
Schneider ought to get down on his knees and thank god almighty that Conlon's attorneys didn't drive this wedge straight up his arse. Judge Vincent was proper in not determining Schneider delinquent because this fact was not argued in the trial as a matter of law. The Collector couldn't say he was delinquent, he could only say that Schneider filed a false declaration and therefore owed the taxes.
Suzy,
You are absolutely right; Keller just sat on the sidelines whilst Mary Beth stuck her neck out for them. It is painfully obvious Keller does not care. I wonder what other wrong doing Keller will just turn her head from and bury it in the sand.
Another quote from the Post article:
Resident William Schwend, 68, wearing a Schneider campaign button, said, "The city needs a mayor who's responsive to the city of Overland, not one who's looking for a steppingstone to further her career." Schwend speculated that Conlon eventually wanted a seat on the St. Louis County Council.
I've never heard MBC say she wanted to be on the County Council. Perhaps all of these folks were at County Council member Burkett's BBQ this weekend and she is wearily looking over her shoulder?
I really don't know where this speculation comes from. Join me...let's just speculate on all kinds of wild things.
I'll go first:
Keller will use the office of Mayor as a stepping stone for running for governor.
In Birmingham they love the Gub-na!! :-)
I’ll speculate and say Schneider will use the office of Mayor as a stepping stone to becoming the Collector of Revenue.
When asked, MBC told me that she has no intention of or interest in seeking a career in politics. She is a successful business woman working for one of the most important multi-national aerospace companies.
For a wild baseless rumor or accusation I offer the following. After winning the Mayoral race, Schneider is looking to bring Enron to Overland.
I’ll speculate further and say, Keller is using the office of Mayor to move the Las Vegas Strip to Downtown Overland (eminent domain). Lots of cards there for Keller to hold close to her chest.
Old Boys quoted in the Paper. Wonder if Schwend is worried about his seat on the Police Board? Schwend sits on the Police Board and receives a monthly check from our fair city. Fitzgerald I have heard grew up with Munsch maybe others know more. How's that for the Old Boys Club wanting to stay in power.
I'm sure they are worried if Conlon gets in she'll wipe the decks. I hope she does
Ok,
Since we get to have some fun here.
1. Keller worked for County 9 yrs ago as A/P, A/R & purchasing but doesn't have a clue when at the budget meetings. Why?
2. Keller got a DUI 9 yrs ago.
3. Turned into a stay-at-home grandma to watch granda kids
4. Just heard Keller still doesn't have her license, hubby has to drive her everywhere, why, can't she figure out how to get it back, & she thinks she can run the city.
5. Keller's husband went after Tim Jones the other night at the meeting, telling him he better "F'ing" leave his wife alone. Little bits of a temper me thinks.
6. Keller put a bus terminal at Brooks park or don't you like mass transist? Speaking of Brooks pard the john is still upside down in the creek.
7. Keller what happens if there an emergency at home & you can't drive?
8. Schneider isn't it the Ortian way not to know or tell the whole story. We're listen go ahead, we can take it.
Keller worked for county at one time, Schneider screwing county & city out of taxes. ORTIAN
Are these really the people we want for mayor, me thinks not.
One-twolayer,
Are these things facts? Holy crap-a-roonie. If they are facts, do the MADD people know Keller had a DUI and is running for Mayor? I can see why she doesn't have a driver's license, next time she could kill somebody, instead of just getting pulled over for drunken driving.
Keller is an alcoholic. I hope her husband/driver doesn't think I am f'n with his wife.
Keller and her husband could star in a new movie the ORT is directing.
Driving Ms. Keller.
Woah….wait a minute, if Keller does not have a driver’s license, why was she driving around putting trashy bags on people's doors during her campaign for Ward 3 Council? Could it be that Keller was driving without a license? Rut Row !!!
New Girl,
Since we're having fun with telling partial stories in Overland I didn't want to leave Keller out, since she said she was not in the mix with Conlon & Schneider.
From what I know, Keller did get a DUI about 9 yrs. ago, I was also told there were other circumstances that went along with that, but have not been able to find out.
As far as her delivering trash bags, have no idea, I was told today she still doesn't have a license is why hubby drives her everywhere.
If this info is incorrect all she has to do is tell the whole story from 9 yrs ago until now, as to what happened. She is now in the public eye right where she wants to be by running.
And if hubby doesn't like people on the board questioning her judgement (which Jones really didn't), then he should have adviced her not to run for council much less mayor.
Oh, that's right, she'd only been to 2 meetings at the end, guess he attended the same 2. He really should have come to more to she what she's in for IF by chance she should get in.
I was just glad Jones didn't yell "Chief, chief, chief".
Oh, forgot this one, Owensby was overheard saying, he can't figure it out why babies & animals like him but women don't.
Anyone want to take a stab at that one.
I always thought that was self-evident about animals when viewing the Mutual of Omaha Virtual Kingdom he wheres on his head.
The baby part is probably wishful thinking on the Coach's part.
He may find female companionship easier to court if he would stop wearing those disguises.

I could just see the issue's closing Brooks Park.
We might as well turm ourselves into the NAACP right now and save time...... "

I am not quite sure what this means. But the Wino's bigotry is on display. What would the NAACP have to do with houses in Brooks Park? You guess is as good as mine.
Gravy,
I was wondering the same thing too. Why would the NAACP care if Brooks Park was sold to build houses? I don't get it.
Overland's elected and to-be elected officials along with the members of this board conitinue to fret and argue over whether Keller had a DUI 9 years ago, whether Schneid paid his taxes on time and whether MBC has grander political aspirations. Meanwhile in the real world, the Clay machine has convinced the General Services Administration to build a new record retention facility in SPANISH LAKE.

Read the stroy. The GSA's current faciltiy is located within the DOD's facility on Page. Overland officials are quoted in the story as being disappointed that jobs and tax dollars are moving out of the city but are "hopeful" that new buisness will come.
We should ask each of the elected officials what they did and to whom they spoke to try to get the GSA to stay in the current site. I suspect that NOTHING was done. How many calls were made to Kit Bond's or Lacy Clay's offices? To whom did the elected officials speak in those offices? What was the reason given by those offices for the move to Spanish Lake?
It really is too bad that we don't have an inquiring paper or journalistic website that could have been on top of this story rather then worrying about the tedium of personal lives. It is even more tragic that the residents don't seem to care either.
Racism=Ignorance=Intolerance=FineWine=Blue Eyes.
One of the problems with being stupid and a racist is that it is difficult to keep your latent hatred from leaking into your public persona.
Spot on Mauler.
T&C,
I saw that on the news the other day and thought the same thing. Why we were not kept abreast on this issue is beyond me.
The reason why we have not been informed and the reason Overland was not considered as a location is because of our lack of leadership in this city since April 2006.
T&C
I have wondered about the issue ever since the initial announcement was made that the National Archives were being moved out of Overland to Fort Knox.
I think one reason this is not being made a huge issue of is that even with the loss of the records center the building will not be empty. As well as the National archives the army and air force store records in the building. Also the US Army human resources command is headquartered there. So the building will not be empty, the GSA will still own it and pay taxes on it, the one change Overland will see is the volume of employees going in every morning.
I quote that I read a few years back and that was quickly pulled was one of the commanders stated that the moving of teh Archives had more to do with AFGE union employees and their attitudes tehn it had to do with buildings and location.
Spot on Doe.
Negatively influenced by our handlers? Eh? What the hell does that mean?
Would that be anything like long nights riding Kenny Owensby's, or I mean riding around in Kenny Owensby's Green Machine?
Hey maybe the Driving Ms. Keller movie idea should replace Keller's Old Man with Kenny Owensby in some sort of Al Jolsen/Mel Carnahan-eque black face outfit.
Driving Ms. Keller, coming to a theater near you.
Oh Donna please.
My comment was not blaming Ann for why it closed. However, my comment did attribute her lack of leadership skills on getting the new facility built in our city.
Any union issues were resolved, since the facility is staying in the Metro area. One reason it was moving (and can now stay) is two different sets of power dynamics in Congress.
