MBC's Platform
Was surfing the big waves of the Word Wide Web today and noticed an update on MBC's mayoral campaign website. She has added a page that includes her campaign platform. I recommend reading it now, before you hear some of the points come (incoherently) from Schneider's mouth next month.
Also, might I recommend that you visit the "donation" page, too.

Blue Eyes,
I must try to get one thing straight, COGG is not backing Schneider, MaryB or Keller, from what I understand. They have also asked that no members wear the COGG shirt while campaigning, for no matter who. They have also asked that no members wear anyones pins etc. to any of the meetings.
I know quite a few of members & they are not what you may think. Nor are they letting someone tell them who or who not to vote for.
From what I gather COGG was started for the right reasons & hopes to stay that way. But they can not control what happens when everyone leaves & goes their seperate ways. They may lose quite a few members because of all of this.
Whether you want to believe it or not, many joined & worked for what they believed was a good cause and that things might evidentually change over time.
Onelayer, If your beliefs are correct in regard to COGG, and I have no evidence that they are not, wouldn't we expect a strong statement in regard to Schneider Filing False Tax Declarations.
Why is he be protesting his delinquent taxes? If we take him at his word that he lived here in 2005 and he had the use of a vehicle, doesn't logic dictate that he would owe the taxes.
In may be a small amount of money, but if the COGG is serious about Good Government I can't see how they can stay silent in regard to the only candidate actively and premeditatedly avoiding his tax burden.
Tax law can not be more clear on this point, the burden is on the tax payer not the taxing authority. If they never contacted him, he is on the hook for filing a false declaration.
Or COGG will show itself to be more interested in political expediency than ethics more or less good government.
With all respect to Fido, I would like to add some detail to your posts on Schneider's Tupperware Franchise.
“Mike said he "bought" a Tupperware franchise up north. I believe Tupperware was then marketed globally using home parties. My Dad called the MLM style of marketing "getting others to sell stuff". Having a team - or a gang of teamleaders managing their gangs of teamleaders - of part-time consultants pushing kitchenware seems like tough work.” Fido
According to the 10-k and 10q reports for Tupperware (TUP) filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, prior to 2002 TUB marketed product through two primary channels: the traditional door to door “tupperware party” method as well as through regional franchise. The regional franchise markets through other existing retail outlets and/or malls by managing the product display and inventories. Target is an example. The idea is similar to traditional retail versus institutional markets. It is my understanding is that Mr./Mrs. Schneider bought the regional tupperware franchise in Minnesota. In 2002, Tupperware announced that they were changing their marketing and distribution strategies in order to maximize their sales. TUP's new strategy eliminated the traditional business relationship with franchises and sold directly to the box store or institutional outlet. I believe TUP did have a program to “step-out” a small portion of regional sales to existing franchises as compensation for taking away their business.
As far as the performance of Schneider's businesses prior to returning to Overland, I only have Schneider's rather incomplete and often confusing “oral declarations” of his business success to go on. Given Schneider has a record of giving false declarations to St. Louis County in regard to his business, I don't see how you can put any stock in his “Horatio Alger”/”prodigal son” campaign narrative.
The only bright-side to recent developments is that if Mike Schneider becomes Mayor, none of us will have to submit our sales taxes, utility taxes or various business license fees.
When Mayor Schneider complains about not paying our taxes we can all reply that we weren't living here, don't know who actually made those sales or used those utilities or "We learned it from you Dad."
Anyone heard from Overland Sailor?
Is the Overland Examiner taking a powder on reporting about Schneider's false declarations?
Rummage sale notices are great, but isn't there some real news out there?
"It seems this case is far from as clear cut as it originally seemed. Ultimately it looks like it will come down to the property tax issue and who was the owner of record of the vehicles in question as well as what evidence the claim that Councilperson Schneider told the county department of revenue he had not become a resident before February 2006 is based on." Overland Examiner June 6, 200
As was clearly explained during the trial, the ownership of a vehicle you use is not material to your property tax incidence. Therefore, this case was not as far from being clear cut as we may have thought. It may actually be simply black and white.
Ultimately, the ownership of the vehicle is not material to adjudicating Conlon's claim. At all.
Few matters of law are more basic, clear and well established than not being able to hide your property in a sole-proprietorship business to avoid tax or civil liability.
(You can add the "oh my wife did it" to the above as well)
"First, I learned that you are only liable for taxes on real or personal property if you owned it on January 1st of that tax year according to 137.075 of the Missouri revised statutes. " Overland Examiner June 6, 2007.
First, what your learned is absolutely dead balls-off not in the ball park dead ass wrong.
"We were able to contact Councilperson Schneider today. Mr. Schneider stated that his company, Lakewood Party Supplies, remained in operation in Minnesota because "it takes time to shut down a business" and the lease on the building the company was operating from did not end until July of 2006." Overland Examiner June 6, 2007.
Well what he told you about his business is wrong. According to the State of Minnesota, Lakewood Party Supplies stopped doing business in Minnesota by 2004. Also, Mr. Schneider's personal name is listed as co-owner on the title of the vehicles and leases in question. It doesn't take time but rather a bunch of lies when closing this business.
Then again, I am pretty much a binary thinking kind of guy folks.
Is there a journalist in the house?
"Now on the surface it would seem that if you were a resident you would be liable for personal property taxes on your vehicle(s). However, that would depend on if you were the owner of record for the vehicle(s) in question." Overland Examiner June 6, 2007
You couldn't be more wrong. It doesn't matter at all who owns the vehicle nor where they choose to have it licensed.
Gravy,
You would think they would & should. I agree.
Gravy,
The only thing I will say is that I don't think after last year anyone was expecting this much of a cluster "F", again the very next year.
Onelayer the COGG was formed for very good reasons. However, after it became apparent the signature drive was going to be successful the group changed and not for the better.
The reason we were so successful was that average citizens who were never involved in politics took hold of this recall and worked so hard. Now the reason this group is detoriating is that the people who ran Overland for so long are taking power over the group.
I will give the chair much credit he has tried to keep it about good government but it has become a mob mentality.
To me I feel very used. I am sadden that a group which could have accomplished many great things for the city is not the same group it was intended to be.
The only statement from COGG was presented in letter in which they claimed one of the good candidates had committed a "Dirty". This refering to the lawsuit.
Well COGG seems like the dirty trick you spke of turned out to be the "Honest to God Truth". Schneider owed back taxes for 2006. He lived in Overland in 2005 and would have entitled for a Waiver that year. He owed for 2006 and paid the tax, penalties and interest.
How can that be called a dirty trick when it is ones duty to pay there taxes, vote intelligentily in elections and keep due diligence on our elected officals.
GOGG is becoming a new name for the Good Ole Boys club of Overland.
GOD SAVE THE KING.
Overland Sailor is a good guy. I doubt he is taking a pass perhaps he is on vacation or just busy.
Based on his original post he reported the story as Schneider had told him evidently that story has changed 360 especially the ownership part.
From what Suzy said his company was disolved this year by the MN Secretary of State and the last time Schneideer filed a report to MN was in 2004. He took him on his word just like the Department of Revenue.
Speaking of people not posting what about the others that have gone missing.
Ghost of Norm Meyers, EJ Lucky Cantrell, Guy Fawkes, SAM, T&C Mauler, John Doe, Edgar Casey, Ghostbuster, Unincorporated Man, The GREAT ORT Public Relations, ORT Contrarian. Where have you guys been? Comeback the blog and city needs you. Norm and Lucky you two dead guys were always dead on!!!
Fido,
The letter was read at the last COGG meeting I attended and the last one I will attend. The Candidate that supposedly did the dirty trick was Conlon.
The reader and arthur I believe was Mark G. A significant number of people protested the wirding he then tried some lame excuse by saying it was merely and example. I know at least one member walked out.
This was the same meeting that ALL COGGED UP referenced about wearing the COGG shirts while campaigning. I don;t know if they had copies at the door, I was getting a upset stomach and an extreme migrant from listening to this bilge.
Did anyone else notice that not only were no snack available at the "Snacks and Facts" campaign function, it turns out that there were few facts as well.
Just got a call Schneider won.
