The Big Bad Debate and Drinking Games

Overland Sailor recorded last night's debate. I assume he will post it on his blog soon. I will wait for detailed comments until then, so those who were not in attendance can keep up.

I was a bit irritated with his "grant fairy" comment. He had plenty of programs he was trying to rally around, but never clued us in on how he was going to fund any of those programs. Perhaps, that "grant fairy" might put us on the road to such programs. But, in reality, he realizes he knows nothing about city grants or city funding and thus chose to belittle the concept of getting "FREE FEDERAL MONEY". (All apologies to Matthew Lesko.)

Overall, MBC ran circles around Schneider. He obviously didn't know the basics of city government and it showed! He even admitted "All he knows is business". (See opening remarks)

Debate Bonus:
For those who imbibe, we did invent a drinking game that you can play while watching the video. Everytime Schneider mentions the term Ward Warriors (or makes reference to "his program") take a drink.
Caution: Hide the keys, because one might be over the legal limit within 30 minutes of the debate.

Updated to include a direct post to Sailor's blog entry with the debate video.

Oh my goodness, Fido, you are absolutely correct I did say Road Warriors…LOL I had to take a look at what I wrote. I meant to say Ward Warriors, but I am certain you got the gist.

Suzy,
I agree with you that Mary Beth definitely ran circles around Schneider. Mary Beth was very specific and knew what she was talking about in regard to accomplishing her goals for Overland. It seemed as though Schneider was trying to sell us a bill of goods. I believe they used to call them snake oil salesmen. I hope Schneider doesn’t diss the tooth fairy next :-(

Fido,
Your words are so true. I did find it ironic that he mentioned his three replacement possibilities (though this is the first Ney and Saye have been thrown in the mix), pretty much taking a closed-off approach to the matter and then on the next question go on about how he wants all processes in government to be wide open.

I say "your actions speak louder than words". Schneider may say he is for open government, but to hand-pick appointments without much ado (or diversity) says otherwise.

Schneider proved last night he has no BUSINESS running for mayor.

I especially liked his comment about the illegals who do not pay taxes, if that's not calling the kettle black I don't know what is.

I also enjoyed the fact that he is a Member of Friends of Wild Acres & he called it a CEMETERY, little slip of the tongue.

If any supporter of Schneider's after last night didn't see the light, there is no hope for those people.

He should be driving around in a pink cadillac, he fits the bill.

"Laws Schmaws!" is to replace the "Different enough to make a diff" as Schneider's campaign slogan.

I hope to have the video up this evening (if I can stay awake long enough). Otherwise the video will be available on The Overland Examiner sometime tomorrow.

Last year there were those who accused me of editing the video (implying I was trying to make some of the participants look bad). While that was ridiculous I thought it best if I presented the video as one file instead of cut into the individual questions and the like.

BTW, Another game you might want to consider is the microphone passing goof up game. LOL

It still bugs me about Schneider wanting to try and bypass laws that protect disabled and handicapped people. What a foolish statement he made. I think most of us have a family member or friend who are disabled and were disgusted with Schneider’s remark. What was he thinking? Schneider is a Nam Vet, I’m sure he knows quite a few Vets that are disabled and would not appreciate Schneider dismissing the laws that protect them. When Schneider made that remark, I heard quite a few gasps of shock from the crowd.

Does anybody know if Keller at least gave the League of Women Voters the courtesy of an RSVP of a yes or a no to participate in the debate? Or did Keller just snub the LWV and her constituents?

May I suggest that Schneider go to the above URL, in regard to laws that protect the disabled people on a local state and federal level.

John Moyle is the greatest thinker that I have met in my life. He is right, always right, damn right. To disagree is to be partisan as John defines the nature and substance of compromise. Those of us who have mistakenly disagreed with him understand it is caused by our intolerance. I just don't listen. I have learned my lesson.

Let the record show that I was in absolute error in regard to calling John a journalist, being inconsistent, being a Schneider Supporter and a COGG apologist.

Schneider claimed that illegal immigrants travel in large groups and have parties every night and have a lot of people spend the night. Schneider said quote "if we have to park a God Darn dump truck in front of their house, that is what we will do to get rid of them" So is that how Schneider can tell who is legal and illegal? If somebody has a large family they are considered illegal? God forbid if anybody has a party at their house, they may find a dump truck blocking their drive way someday. Can we say Gestapo? Oh, and of course he said that the illegal’s work here and don’t pay taxes. Uh, helllloooo Mr. Schneider, you work here and tried to weasel out of paying your taxes by filing a false declaration of residency. Are you an Illegal Mr. Schneider?

Schneider also said that a lot of Senior Citizens are lonely, so "let's call it babysitting them" and give them our time. Babysitting? How much more insulting can he get?

The over the top thing Schneider said in regard to new business that comes in to Woodson Road is to waive the laws that you have to have handicap accessible bathrooms. And find a way to waive and grandfather the new business in somehow so they don’t have to have their business handicap accessible. So in essence he is excluding disabled people from the enjoyment of partaking in the new businesses that come to Overland. Again, I stress to Schneider that he visit
http://ada.gov/ website and see the laws that are in place to protect the handicapped and disable citizens.
What an outrage!

Here is just an excerpt from the ada.gov website, I suggest you read this Mr. Schneider before Overland gets a huge lawsuit filed against this city.

Title III prohibits discrimination based on disability in public accommodations. Private entities covered by title III include places of lodging, establishments serving food and drink, places of exhibition or entertainment, places of public gathering, sales or rental establishments, service establishments, stations used for specified public transportation, places of public display or collection, places of recreation, places of education, social service center establishments, and places of exercise or recreation. Title III also covers commercial facilities (such as warehouses, factories, and office buildings), private transportation services, and licensing and testing practices.

If you feel you or another person have been discriminated against by an entity covered by title III, send a letter to the Department of Justice.

Does anyone know the date of the debate the OBA was going to host and if Keller rsvp'd to that?

Fine Wine,
I have to make a correction, what Schneider actually said was:

“I don’t care if we have to park a God darn city dump truck in front of their driveway to block them in”

That doesn’t seem very legal to block people from being able to leave their homes. That is imprisonment. How can Schneider tell who is illegal and who is legal by just looking at them? So will every Hispanic person in Overland be under scrutiny now, if Schneider is Mayor? So, if a household has a large family and is Hispanic, Schneider is going to assume they are illegal and harass them by parking city dump trucks in their driveway? This is awful, just awful.
