"I can't be bother with such frivolity as taxes"--Mike Schneider

Have you been to your mailbox yet? We all received a set of delusions from Herr Schneider regarding the petition. He deemed to call it "frivilous". I don't know--the end result was that he generated some tax revenue by paying his taxes (although "under protest"). We would have never gotten those funds if not for the petition.

I love how he outlines how honest and trustworthy he is in the letter. I would show you a copy, but I spit my Kool-Aid out all over it when reading this portion.

Again, he does a good job of outlining MBC's plan for Overland.

What Schneider failed to mention in his little packet that he mailed out is, he was forced to pay back taxes with penalties and interest. He also failed to mention that, Mary Beth, filed the petition with the courts because the Schneider’s gave a false declaration to the status of their residency, to obtain a waiver and weasel out of paying their personal property taxes. They claimed their status of residency was in February 2006. So Mary Beth did the logical thing and filed a PETITION with the courts going on Schneider’s “honesty” of stating he was not a resident until February 2006. Schneider got off on a technicality because the Department of Revenue did not catch Schneider’s lying about his residency status as of May 22, 2007. The little packet Schneider sent out is an insult to our intelligence as is the ORT war cry of “free trash”. I think Schneider is just pissed that he got busted for weaseling out of paying his taxes and the fact that Mary Beth exposed his deceit. Schneider got off on a technicality, but that does not take away from the fact that he or the Mrs filed a FALSE DECLARATION TO WEASEL OUT OF PAYING TAXES.
Then he pays his back taxes UNDER PROSTEST!!!!! Now Schneider has the gall to claim he has integrity, honesty and character? What a crock of chit that is. Schneider is trying to twist the PETITION Mary Beth filed as a “frivolous lawsuit”, how lame can he get. Mary Beth was not seeking monetary damages or anything, she just wanted to set the record straight and have an honest campaign. Then we got Keller “160” trying to capitalize on this. Shame on you Keller, it does not make you look good to make political hay out of this, you should have been just as concerned about this as Mary Beth.

Schneider trying to make light of evading taxes and playing off like "Joe innocent" pisses me off.

Schneider can steal Mary Beth’s ideas all he wants, the fact is, Schneider doesn’t have a clue as how to implement Mary Beth’s ideas. Only Mary Beth can implement these ideas, and she has the knowledge and knows how. Mary Beth has a degree in Public Policy along with experience to run a city. Neither Schneider nor Keller can claim that.

That mailer is a real hoot. Anyone know people who get caught in a lie and thereafter spend all of their time trying to convince others of their integrity? The explanations get longer and less believable but the dishonest person keeps defending the lie. Why, they know the truth of their actions. They understand the lying and lose more and more credibility as the compulsively attempt to explain it away.

New Girl you nailed it on the head. This mailer reads like it was written by the ORT. As I asked the board earlier, does Mike Schneider do anything "on the square"? Like the statement inferring that Conlon paid his court costs when he knows damn good and well that he paid his own court costs.

They say the truth will set you free. In Schneider case, the truth will not set him free as he reacts to it like a vampire reacts to a crucifix.

It is a shame that we don't have a non-biased information source to investigate these claims as we did when Purzner published her Overland Watch. I originally saw the COGG as a benefit to the community. I was naive in thinking that "good government" was their actual goal. My mistake. As the recent past has demonstrated, Mike Schneider will not be held to any standard of good government. The COGG and COGG apologists have chosen to remain silent in the face of obvious dishonesty by candidate Schneider.

In hopes that the COGG was true to their mandate, I failed to recognize the absolute fact that non-partisan or objective policy analysis does not exist in this world. Anyone telling you otherwise is either disingenuous or ignorant.

Hopefully the debate will draw Schneider out from behind the curtain because no other person or publication is willing to do so.

The debate forum may be the only time during this campaign when Mike Schneider has to defend his dishonesty and demonstrate his substantive ignorance of MBC agenda.

The thing that bothers me is the fact that I have yet to hear anything from Keller. Except of course restoring the trash service.Would Keller's self proclaimed P.R person "commonsense"
stand up and let me know just what I was supposed to see at the June 25th council meeting? I didn't hear anything from Keller that would help me "better understand her ideas" She wants the votes but doesn't want to explain why.

I got Schnieder's letter yesterday. He would have been better off just leaving well enough alone.

Keller can’t even grasp the concept of miscellaneous expenditures in the City’s budget lest alone grasp the concept of running a city. When Keller opens her mouth at meetings and workshops, all the more ignorant she appears, if she did but know it. I think she is a legend in her own mind, similar to Purzner the lying RN. Maybe she can dazzle her chauffer husband with a few accounting buzz words, but she certainly does not dazzle or fool most people with her ignorance. A general office clerk does not an accountant make.

Ladyluck, I have yet to see any ideas from Keller besides the old ORT chants from days of yore.

Mr. Schneider's letter is really quite a piece of work.

I really think this guy is so full of himself that he thinks he is God. His supporters are as Owensby said "old bitties" They harbor a grudge based on wanting to remain in control or stay in power.

I have personally called Conlon and volunteered to help her. I suggest that others on this board and who read this board do so as well.

They have much literature to get out and door knocking to do. If you sit back and just vent it might make you feel good to get it off your chest but what we need to be doing is helping her go door to door and get her message out.

Remember it's Mary Beth's message not Schneider's which he has stolen .

When I read Schneidly's letter it only convinced me this guy is exactly more of the same. He is cut of the same mold as Dody and Munsch. His campaign chit keeps saying he is a man.

Well a real man doesn't have to resort to copying his opponents literature. A real man pays his taxes and doesn't deceive the government or the people.
A real man doesn't hide behind the Marine Corp to boost his insecurity.

Perhaps the only thing that is actually true on his lit is that he is a MAN but he has no balls.

For Fido:

I hoped for a journalist who may attempt to be impartial to report on the case for the very reasons you cite, which are in error. The Plantiff's legal work called a petition is not the judge's opinion so the answer would be no, the petition filed in the lawsuit by the plaintiff would not constitute great local journalism or any quality of local journalism for that matter.

lawsuit

n. a common term for a legal action by one person or entity against another person or entity, to be decided in a court of law, sometimes just called a "suit." The legal claims within a lawsuit are called "causes of action" which are considered by moving a petition through the court.

Exactly, like I keep saying, I wish there was a local journalist that would actually cover the facts of the trial.

I have always deplored the shallow type of innuendo politics characterized by the Overland Watch as well as the numerous other ORT Handbills you have covered and debunked through the Overland Examiner during the past year.

This week I received a similar hand bill placed on my door by candidate Schneider that is as devoid of facts as anything distributed by the ORT. Schneider's people were as disrespectful as the ORT. Schneider people posted their handbill on my door directly next to the no soliciting sign, just as the ORT.

So if you are looking for a title, I guess I would pick inconsistent, Schneider Supporter or COGG Apologist.

Recently I decided to return to school. I signed up for a class covering online journalism at UMass - Amherst and now I am struggling to re-learn how to be a student. One of the requirements for that class is to have a Blog at the college. That new Blog for my class has my name on it. Though I have not made much of an effort to hide my identity (I even put my real name on business cards I created to promote the site), I have not really "come out" on this web site. Concealing one's identity online has always been a recommended safety precaution and one I have followed consistently. However, there are times when we need to stand behind what we say and do. As you can see from the top of the left column on this page I have decided to do just that.

Being frustrated with the way most of the sites we have were handling the issues facing Overland, I decided to take on creating a Blog myself. I have done a blog or two before, so it was not too complicated to get done. My mission was to challenge our politician's claims. I choose to combat rhetoric with research and common sense. This site you are reading right now is that Blog and it has been a success thus far in my view.

Since my motivations have been questioned I thought I would spell them out. For starters I have no interest in running for political office ever. Sailor,
You mentioned Owensby’s minutes on his cell phone were in most part made to his political friends not the residents of Ward 3. You also mentioned you had a copy of this bill. Will you be posting said bill on your website? I don’t feel we should have to pay for Owensby talking to his friends on our dime. I agree with you Sailor, that Owensby does not need a cell phone to get back to Ward 3 residents that call him on his home phone. If there is an extreme emergency in Ward 3 whilst he is “substitute teaching” in St. Charles, I’m sure there would be a way to contact him through the school system. What on earth could be so pressing he needs to call Ward 3 residents while on the job of “substitute teaching”? I agree Owensby is always squawking about unnecessary spending, yet he forks over a $218.00 cell phone bill to the City of Overland to pay, for his personal use of talking with friends. What a disingenuous person Owensby is.

6:19 AM
Blogger New Girl in Town said...

Another point about Owensby wanting Overland residents to pay for his internet bill; what the heck for? In what way does Owensby’s surfing of the net benefit the residents of Overland? Is this guy out of his mind?
Gee whiz, can he milk the system anymore? And people in Ward 3 vote for this goon? I just don’t get it!

6:41 AM
Blogger suzyjax said...

In addition, why would Owensby want the citizens to have access (which we would be entitled) to everything he has searched on the internet by having us pickup the bill. I saw something about $10.99 DSL, wouldn't it be worth that to protect your own privacy.

8:12 AM
Blogger New Girl in Town said...

Suzy,
I don't think Owensby is smart enough to think that far ahead.

Owensby is nothing more than a ball baby screecher. I think his position on the council gives him a heady sense of power. But what truly and honestly amazes me is that people in Ward 3 actually vote for Owensby. What is wrong with them? Seriously! I sure hope the people of Ward 3 smarten up by next year and vote him out and off of the council, he just whines and takes up space, he brings nothing of substance to the council.

Hi folks, first, though that April bill was for 218.40, Lisa from finance pointed out that she got Verizon to waive those charges but that they would not be waiving future bills. So, we didn't have to pay that one.

Second, I won't be putting that bill on the website unless something comes up that forces my hand. I don't see any reason to publicly disclose a host of people's phone numbers out there (and I am too lazy to black out the 100s of them).

If Councilman Owensby was a wise man, he would realize that continued use of a "city paid" cell phone would mean that everyone he called or who called him would be subject to public disclosure due to the Freedom of Information Act and the fact that we are paying the bill. If I was him, I would pay for my own phone out of the $500.00 a month we pay him just for the privacy that would allow.

For the life of me I cannot understand why Mr. Owensby "needs" a cell phone. He does not give the number to the public so people have to call his home anyway. Why not just wait till he gets home to call them back?

9:39 AM
Blogger New Girl in Town said...

Fine Wine,
Then why don't you just go ahead and pay for Owensby's cell phone and internet bills.

What good exactly and specificaly has Owensby done? As far as I have observed he has done nothing but screech and bring up subjects with no subtance what so ever. He complains about frivolos nonsense constantly. I think he just likes to hear himself screech.

BTW there Fine Wine, I am not out of line. That is your opinion ONLY! And frankly I could give a rats behind what you think of me, you mean absolutely nothing to me.

10:46 AM
Blogger New Girl in Town said...

So Fine Wine, let me get this straight. You think its ok for Owensby to bill the citizens of Overland for his personal use of a cell phone and internet service?
Good grief.

Yet you constantly nag and complain about unnecessary spending by the city. You are always contradicting yourself. Sorry, I can’t take you seriously.

I believe at the last meeting the Council voted to not pay for cell phones for the Councilpeople. It can come out of the $500 and it's more important for the workers to have them.

Keller was not at Mondays meeting.
Any bets on whether she shows at the Debate?

10:53 AM
Blogger New Girl in Town said...

c3missile,
Thank goodness the Council voted down paying for Owensby's personal cell phone bill and any other Council Members who desire a cell phone. It was just Keller and Owensby that wanted cell phones for themselves.

I agree with the majority of the Council that only the city workers and DPW should have cell phones, because they are always out in the field and need to contact one another, that makes absolute sense. Of course Owensby fought tooth and nail on that decision. Wouldn’t we all like our personal cell phones paid for.

I think Keller will be a no show tonight. Her platform is empty, and she lacks experience as evidenced by her questions at meetings and workshops.

FineWine,
You and I have agreed on a few things lately and I hate to break that streak. However, if the citizens are to pay a bill (whether it is cell phone, internet, or grocery bill) we are entitled to a breakdown of how the money is spent.
I think even Owenbsy, who is always wanting more details in the bills, would agree on this issue.
In addition, Owensby wouldn't be the first politician that raised eyebrows over a cell phone bill and who was called. A few years back, Elliot Davis would do such a report about once a month.
This same would hold true to any phone bill (land line or cell) that the city has. So, yes, the chief, the PW director, etc should all be held accountable to the same standards.

Sweetpickles,
That incident with the lady and her family being pulled over was extremely unfortunate. I feel for her and her family.
It appears as though there was a gross error in communications between the St. Louis County Police and the Overland Police Department. The police now a day can’t take any chances when pulling over suspects, as you know from recent news many police officers have been shot in the line of duty. How is an officer supposed to decipher an innocent person from a criminal, from their squad car, they took necessary precautions. Unfortunately they pulled over the wrong people. I do sincerely, really feel bad for the woman and her family and the horrific experience they had to endure.

When it comes to the cell phone bill issue I looked into it after Councilman Owensby claimed he uses his phones to help residents all over the city because the other Council people don't return calls (which is not true of any of them in my experience). So I looked at his bill and the first interesting thing I noticed was that the vast majority of his calls where to exchanges other than Overland.

He raised the issue, I just looked into it. As for BOTH of the former Councilpersons with outrageous phone bills, when I heard of them I also heard that one paid his bill (or had it paid for him) and the other successfully argued with Verizon to wave it. For the record, one of those Council people was against the Mayor's actions and the of was for them.

As for the issue of the traffic stop, the details are hard to come by at this time. Was it Overland or St. Louis County that made the initial stop? Was the stop an officer's mistake or was the officer given bad information? We don't know yet.

What I do know is that they were making a felony vehicle stop, and from what I have heard so far it sounds like the procedures they followed were in line with normal police proceedure.

I feel bad for this lady and I would like to know how they came to stopping her car. Was this was a mistake, a case of racial profiling or something else? However, the way the stop was handled, with the exception of her claim of being given conflicting orders, seems to fall right in line with standard procedure for such stops.

There really isn't much else to say about this until more information becomes available.

12:35 PM
Blogger John Moyle said...

BTW, the Public Works director and of City staff's cell phones would certainly not be an issue. The bills are paid for by the city, and that means they should be accessible if a FOI request in made. However, I am not sure if that information is handled differently for law enforcement. I don't believe it is but I could be mistaken.

Fine Wine,
Overland should be concerned how Ward 3 votes and who for. Those people Ward 3 vote for become part of the Council. Thank goodness Keller and Owensby are the minority in the voting process on the Council, because neither one of them in most instances vote for the betterment of Overland. Owensby and Keller, by all appearances seem to be self serving and lack good judgment. Well now that you moved from Ward 4 to live in Ward 3, Fine Wine, good luck. I’m not saying everybody in Ward 3 is clueless, but apparently most are, they voted in Keller and Owensby, that is evidence enough for me. How many times has Owensby called you from his cell phone? How many times have you called Owensby’s cell phone? You seem to have a lot of complaints. Are you a chronic complainer?

1:17 PM
Blogger John Moyle said...

FINEWINE Mr. Owensby can respond so quickly not because he has a cell phone but because he does not have a full time job. Substitute teachers are limited to how many days they can work a year.

If you want this level of service from all on the Council than the only approach I can see is to change the monthly pay of our Council people from 500.00 to 3000.00 and give them access to medical and retirement benefits. That would allow people to run for Council and if they win make it their full time profession.

Alternately, you could simply call the people at City Hall that are actual full-time employees and who's job it is to address concerns. I've lived here for about 9 years now, and I have always been able to get questions answered by the staff at City Hall. I didn't always like the answers (which is when I would take the issue to my Council members if I felt it was necessary), but I always got an answer presented in a professional manner.

I feel that GK should have stayed out of the race also.
The main reason MBC lost is that the people didn't get out and vote.
I don't think this will ever happen again. Yes it's going to be a hard race to win. If by some
strange reason PK would win, we would be in the same fix we were with Ann. Peggy would better serve the community to stay a councilwoman.

Finally, I agree with you 100% on your above post. Keller is still wet behind the ears so to speak. I think Keller would better serve this community by withdrawing from the Mayoral race. I don’t think Keller gave it much thought before running for Mayor. I have a gut feeling she was pushed into it.
